ACCOUNTING MANAGER – AP/AR

Wagner Equipment Co., the Caterpillar Dealership for Colorado, New Mexico and far west Texas, has an exciting career opportunity for an Accounting Manager-AP/AR.  The Accounting Manager-AP/AR gives oversight to the Accounts Payable and Cash Application Teams.  Four year degree in Accounting required. The Accounts Payable Team processes all paper invoices received from the Company?s vendors, including entering the invoices to the accounting system, scheduling the invoice for payment, and submitting check runs.  Additionally, the team is responsible for resolving vendor questions and reconciling vendor statements.  The Accounting Manager-AP/AR has the assistance of an AP Lead through which most day-to-day questions are resolved and supports that lead and the group in issues that are unable to be handled by the AP Lead.

 

The Cash Applications Team is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely posting of payments to customers? accounts.  The Accounting Manager-AP/AR is supported by a Cash Applications Lead who is responsible for handling most day-to-day questions, administers Notes Receivable processing and serves to back-up critical functions.

 

The Accounting Manager-AP/AR is responsible for staff development and training within these two groups, including ensuring adequate cross-training of critical functions.  Annual reviews, compensation adjustments, staffing needs will be determined by the Accounting Manager-AP/AR subject to concurrence from the Controller.  In addition to these responsibilities, the Accounting Manager-AP/AR will perform or review monthly reconciliations of AP and AR related balances, develop policies and procedures relative to AP and cash applications, assist in implementation and enforcement of approved policies and procedures and support AP and cash application related projects and initiatives as required.

 

General Duties:

Personnel Management ? support department staff by ensuring adequate training and direction.  Assist staff and Leads in setting priorities and establish regular meetings and follow-up procedures to monitor progress toward those priorities.  Implement cross-training program within the areas to ensure redundancy in ?mission critical? processes.

 

Policies and Procedures ? develop policies pertaining to critical aspects AP and cash application areas for the review and approval of Executive or departmental management.  Develop written process documentation over critical areas in AP and cash applications and publish those procedures in Mentor, an online procedures database.  Ensure the adequacy of procedures and coverage through cross-training within and across groups on critical functions.

 

Reconciliations ? perform or review reconciliations of key AP and AR related accounts. Ensure timely submission of reconciliations to Audit/Tax Manager each month in ?audit ready? form.

 

Project/Initiative Management - support the Controller, CFO or others in overseeing and managing various projects and initiatives.  Examples of projects or initiatives include: supporting the implementation of a purchasing software system, exploring and/or implementing alternative payment options to checks (e.g., ACH debits) with vendors, assisting in records retention efforts, data cleansing of vendor database.

 

Other ?  Support AR Lead efforts to ensure the company?s cash and COD accounts are kept current and work with branch managers as needed to resolve issues that might arise.  Support staff in ensuring timely and accurate submission of cash deposit information from branch locations and keep upper management informed of instances of non-compliance.
