ASSISTANT CONTROLLER

 

Position is located in Cambridge with an approximately $175M publicly traded firm.  The Finance team is fairly large.  This role will manage four direct reports and up to 15 indirect reports.  This is absolutely a grooming role for the Controller position. 

 

Requirements:

The ideal Candidate will have 6 ? 10 years of progressive accounting experience with a private or public company.  They will have managed at least a couple people at the senior level.  They will be able to add value to the company immediately by having either SEC reporting experience, very strong month end close experience, or be at a manager level or greater in a Big Four or large regional public accounting firm, or any combination of these. This individual must have very good management skills or be willing to face the challenges of managing a large group of colleagues within an employee friendly corporate environment. 

 

Responsibilities:

*Perform hands-on coordination of day-to-day financial operations, including cash management.

*Manage the general ledger month-end and quarter-end close in accordance with GAAP.

*Recommend and implement improvements to further automate the close processes.

*Coordinate preparation of internal and external reporting, including audit schedules, financial statements, and SEC filings.

*Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.

*Liaise with IT to prioritize and implement financial systems enhancements.

*Work closely with the Corporate Tax Manager to ensure compliance of income, sales/use, value-added, and payroll tax filings with relevant jurisdictions.
*Demonstrate strong leadership skills in motivating Finance department staff.

*Cultivate strong working relationships with international subsidiary finance staff and various cross-departmental peers.

*Work on additional projects involving account analysis, account research, and special reporting as required.
