Accountant/Billing Specialist

 

Job Function:

Prepares purchase orders and/or requisitions to submit for processing payments of program expenses, authorized services to eligible individuals and/or department administrative costs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Prepares and coordinates internal program files relative to program expenses.Assists with the payment system implementation and maintenance for Tribal member health services, together with the Community Health Worker.Coordinates health program member payment invoices for approval and prepares resulting invoices for payment.Resolves explanation of benefits (EOB) issues associated with health care invoicing.Certifies co-pay and out-of-plan payment requests.Verifies third party payments.Resolves billing issues with health vendors.Prepares appropriate paperwork for process to Accounting Department for payment.Coordinates ordering of office supplies and maintains inventory.Assists with all General Ledger or equivalent coding of expenses for department expenses.Assists to maintain program data as desired, including data and reflect services to members, member participation in activities and/or case management information.Serve as back-up to reception duties.Maintains program-specific spreadsheets and records.Attends and participates in professional conferences and workshops to enhance position related efficiency and knowledge.Maintains high confidentiality standards at all times.  Is required to sign a confidentiality statement upon acceptance of employment.All other duties as assigned.



 

Additional Desired Qualifications:Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

Education and Experience:High school diploma or general education degree (GED);  One to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Past fund accounting, cost coding or other accounting experience desirable.

 

Physical Requirements:Must be able to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel.Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  The noise level is usually moderate.

 

Licensing Requirements:Must be 18 years of age.

 

Key Competencies:Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.  Able to work in a fast-paced environment & able to multi-task.  Flexibility and ability to assist others when needed.  Must enjoy working with diverse groups of people.  PC knowledge.
