Accountant II - Accounts Receivable

Position Purpose

Responsible for activities related to the accounts receivable segment of the division/corporate accounting function ensuring accurate processing and maintenance of data and records used for financial reporting.

 

Accounts Receivable II:

Work is performed under minimal supervision.  Normally receives no instructions on routine work and general instructions on new assignments.  Generally, work is evaluated upon completion to ensure objectives have been met.  Work assignments are complex in nature where judgment is required in resolving problems and making recommendations.  Applies extensive knowledge of the job, and company policies and principles to complete a wide range of tasks.  Comprehensive understanding of the general and technical aspects of the job.  Requires an Associates Degree (AA) from a two-year college or technical school in accounting with a minimum of 2-4 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience. A Bachelor?s degree from a four-year college or university is preferred.  Provides technical leadership to Accounts Receivable I.

 

 

Essential Functions

 

Accounts Receivable I:Gathers information on new customers in order to set up new customer files and initiate invoicing.Researches and trouble-shoots discrepancies on invoices.Generates reports to notify management of aging problems.Reconciles deferred revenue and A/R controlling account at the end of each month.Prepares revenue and billable quantity reports on a monthly basis.Prepares journal entries for accrued revenue on a monthly basis.Prepares credit memorandums to indicate returned or incorrectly billed merchandise.

Accounts Receivable II: (Includes ALL Receivable I functions plus the following)Ensures payment and collection of monies are made within terms of agreement.Researches new and old customer information to determine credit worthiness of customer.Prepares and reviews balance sheet recons.Reviews aging status of invoices to determine payment.

Other Functions

1.  Assists Accounting Managers and/or Division Controller with month end reports and reconciliation as needed.

2.  Assists with special projects as needed.

3.  Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

o  Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents

o  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization

o  Solid organizational skills with the ability to prioritize in a fast paced environment with close attention to detail

o  Solid analytical and problem-solving skills including problem identification, analysis, action planning and execution

o  Solid knowledge of spreadsheets (Excel), word processing (Word & PowerPoint) and internet

o  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages

o  Solid knowledge of GAAP

o  Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships

o  Ability to adapt to changing priorities, meet deadlines and work well under pressure

o  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

 

Material And Equipment Directly Used:

Requires use of standard office equipment and PC/VDT, mouse, and various peripherals.  Equipment requires involved set-up, adjustments and operational procedures (e.g. word processing equipment, personal computers, scanners and digital copier/printer). 

 

 

Working Environment/Physical Activities:

 

Work is generally performed in an office environment.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Travel may be required.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
