Accounting Analyst - GAAP

Our client, a division of a Fortune 50 company, is a leading provider of savings, security and protection solutions to consumers through its affinity marketing channels.  The company offers a full range lifestyle enhancement products are offered to customers of the most recognized businesses in the US and include roadside assistance programs, travel and entertainment programs, legal services and supplemental life, health and dental insurance plans. 

 

The company is seeking an Accounting Analyst to look at current practices and procedures for development and implementation of changes to improve business and the bottom line.  The position is envisioned as a ?mini Chief Financial Officer? role that will be provided products for which to manage Profit and Loss and also be involved in working for Green Belt certification, driving projects, closing meetings and pitching results to senior leadership.  Reporting to the acting Chief Financial Officer, the qualified candidate will collaborate with other Finance teams, the Marketing team, corporate leadership, and external accounting firms.  An articulate, confident individual, he/ she will have sizeable experience working within a corporate environment or a public auditing firm and proven technical expertise.

 

The Accounting Analyst will be responsible for the following:

?  Analyzing and preparing GAAP financial statements.

?  Managing the monthly and quarterly GAAP closing process.

?  Preparing quarterly and annual statutory financial statements.

?  Preparing and reviewing account reconciliation.

?  Analyzing and verifying the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications.

?  Completing of year end audit process to remain compliant.

?  Preparing timely and accurate insurance and investment disclosures.

?  Analyzing and booking restructuring charges and GAAP accounting.

?  Assisting Profit and Loss leadership with issues identification and resolution.

?  Preparing accurate Annual Insurance Expense Exhibits.

?  Administering and supporting various controllership special projects and other work that may arise.

 

The qualified candidate should possess the following:

?  2-5 years Accounting/ Finance experience in insurance industry; 2-3 years external/ internal auditing experience preferred. 

?  Strong background interpreting balance sheets, Profits and Loss, drivers and account reconciliations.

?  Understanding of controls and controllership.

?  General Ledger knowledge.

?  Experience with GAAP.

?  Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills; proven use of financial tools.

?  Ability to communicate issues and provide potential solutions from financial perspective.

?  Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

?  Solid Account reconciliation background.

?  Must be able and willing to work additional hours as necessary during financial reporting times.

?  Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.

?  Hands-on experience with Oracle GL a plus.

?  Minimal travel required.

?  Bachelors of Science in Accounting or Finance required; Masters of Business Administration preferred.
