Accounting Manager I

Job Description: GENERAL SUMMARY: Responsible for developing and maintaining financial accounting systems and preparation of financial statements and management reports. Applies knowledge of accounting principles, practices and processes to activities associated with maintaining ledger accounts and developing financial statements and reports.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain a specific or multiple aspects of the accounting system to ensure that it accurately reflects the financial status of the business unit.
Create and review journal entries and supporting documentation to ensure accurate reporting.
Update and review monthly account reconciliations.
Determine, and update as necessary, proper cost center requirements and rollup structures and coordinate update requirements within determined deadlines.
Research, recommend and drive implementation of system improvements to increase department efficiency and accuracy.
Assist internal and/or external audit process as required.
Meet accounting close deadlines as assigned.
Provide support to business unit finance group as required.
Coordinate, develop, issue, review and update business unit financial accounting and operating policies.
Ensure that the internal financial reporting requirements of the company are met.
Advise, consult, and present to executive management on financial and/or accounting issues involving business activities for a business unit to ensure proper compliance with laws and GAAP.
Provide expert guidance, leadership, and assistance to less experienced staff.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Good understanding of the company's business goals and objectives.
Facilitate and practice security and confidentiality of information.
Understands concepts underlying details, identifies errors, and makes decisions regarding future business needs.
Thorough knowledge of PC software applications; preferrably MS Access & SQL.
Thorough ability to gather, monitor and document data.
Thorough knowledge of accounting principles.

Good ability to manage external relationships.

Good ability to recognize financial implications of business decisions and strategy.

Prefer Bachelor's degree in Accounting with 4-6 years experience or equivalent training and experience. CPA Preferred.
