Assistant Controller - Insurance

CITY: Schaumburg STATE: Illinois COUNTRY: USA Essential Functions (Responsibilities):
Balance Sheet Reviews & Controls:
* Implement controllership metrics around key balance sheet items and variances to proactively reflect on business and economic trends and identify action items.
* Manage regular balance sheet reviews with CFO and HQ to proactively communicate any changes in methodology, accounting guidance, and/or internal processes affecting the balance sheet.
* Oversee insurance monthly closing process. Provide inputs to established process for manual journal entry review and review and sign-off on all key items.
* Maintain 100% reconciled balance sheet and controls related to protection of assets. Maintain six-sigma account reconciliation process.
* Prepare and review all internal and external reporting audited STAT financial statements, and respective NAIC and state agency filings.
* Support Sox 404 efforts around internal controls/testing at PMG.
* Drive simplification and digitization initiatives to continuously improve controllership environment.
* Provide technical leadership around GE's Insurance business - including development, review and documentation of accounting policies and policy changes.
* Coordinate and prioritize resources necessary to complete daily and monthly tasks, as well as special assignments and/or audit requests.

Overall:
* Lead and coach the insurance accounting team.
* Drive special projects related to controllership enhancement.* Facilitate best practice sharing and work load optimization across teams
* Partner with Operational Controller to ensure seamless implementation of process improvements and communication enhancements as well as to have overall insight into processes affecting balance sheet

Qualifications/Requirements:
* Minimum 7 years insurance accounting experience, as Controller or Assistant Controller.
* Strong working knowledge of SAP accounting pronouncements.
* Analytic skills, including ability to identify and quantify financial impact of opportunities with limited data.
* Project management and demonstrated process improvement skills in Finance or related discipline.
* Strong communication, customer relationship, CAP and networking skills.
* Strong systems skills including Excel, Access, GL applications, Powerpoint, etc.
* Quality/Process Improvement training.
* Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting or related discipline.
* CPA
* Demonstrated leadership and employee management experience

Desired:
* Strong understanding of consumer finance industry.
* FMP or CAS background.
* MBA
* Completed Six Sigma training with either GB or BB
