Under general supervision, this level is responsible for performing audit activities that require a full command of the applicable internal/external regulatory requirements and audit standards/practices as they apply to specific assignments.  While an incumbent is still personally involved in performing detailed audit work, on smaller and/or low risk projects, some lead responsibilities may be assigned and an incumbent may function as the “Auditor-In-Charge” of an audit team.  In this capacity, an incumbent is accountable for coordinating all of the task elements involved in the execution of the assigned audit project and for presenting the audit findings to first-line management.

 

Key job functions include the following:
>Plans, coordinates and conducts on-site internal audits (typically involving medium- to high-risk activities/functions) to evaluate financial, custodial, control, information technology and operating systems.
>Communicates conclusions, audit concerns, exposures, and recommends corrective action to audit management, and negotiates audit management response.
>Participates in planning activities relative to specific audit projects, including (but not limited to):
- identifying allocation of budget to activities in the assigned area
- determining appropriate and critical control objectives for the activity being audited
- evaluating the adequacy of the control system
- selecting control points that require testing for effectiveness
- designing audit tests for critical controls to ensure compliance with professional standards
- evaluating results of audit test work
>Conducts formal internal training sessions on more complex topics such as those related to specialized industries or practices.
>Serves as AIC (Auditor In-Charge) on low- to medium-risk audits, as assigned; coordinates all aspects of on-site audit preparation, participation, execution and documentation; oversees the execution of specific tasks by the project team; identifies resource requirements and coordinates local logistics to facilitate successful execution and conclusion of project activities; develops action plans and monitors project progress to ensure objectives are achieved; identifies problematic issues and consults with higher level authority to resolve.
>Monitors and informally evaluates the job performance of on-site staff relative to the effectiveness of local controls, practices and reporting capabilities; identifies skill deficiencies, and follows up to ensure that corrective action is taken to minimize the risk/exposure.




Knowledge:

o Complex banking business practices including knowledge of corporate services, cash/investment management, real estate functions and how these relate to the areas audited

o Principles and practices relating to real estate management and development projects.

o Principles and practices relating to the broker/dealer relationship and mutual funds.

o Concepts and practices relating to project management and team leadership and evaluation.

o Methods and techniques relating to training delivery and employee coaching/feedback. 

 

Ability/Skill to:

o Interpret non-routine guidelines to various complex work unit activities.

o Assign and assess the work of others.

o Use computer spreadsheet and/or database applications for the purpose of modeling/forecasting data.

o Present audit findings

o Distinguish and/or identify material non-compliance with overall Company policies and procedures, and regulations  applicable to  detailed area and/or functions audited.

o Encourage audit team members and clients to openly share ideas and information.

 

o 5 years of directly related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

o Professional certification as a CPA, CIA, or CISA is preferred.

o Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
