Business Analyst (JP-958)

TRANSAMERICA REINSURANCE, a leading life and annuity reinsurer, is looking for a Business Analyst (JP-958) to join our office in Charlotte, NC.  Transamerica Reinsurance is a leading provider of reinsurance and consulting services for companies which underwrite life, annuity and accident & health business.  It maintains reinsurance treaties in the United States, Latin America and Asia-Pacific.

Major Responsibilities
* Facilitate analytical review of operational processing and output focusing on fluctuations in financial activity and operating standards.  Identify and research issues, draw conclusions, make recommendations, communicate and summarize issues of significance.
* Communicate and collaborate with other members of Operations to understand issues impacting proper processing by Operations Analysts.  Make recommendations to facilitate processing that will result in accurate financial statements.
* Assist in operations month-end and quarter-end closing process to ensure seamless interaction with FRAD.
* Produce monthly management reports of operational results to provide communication across the organization and facilitate strategic business decisions
* Oversee daily and monthly process and system reconciliation's to ensure timely clearance of unreconciled items.
* Assist in creation, analysis and distribution of Business Objects operational reports
* Process improvements and documentation of new procedures and controls in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements
* Participation in operational and organizational training
* Produce ad-hoc reports for management and other members of the organization as needed
* Other duties as required for the position.

 

Minimum Requirements

* Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent experience
* 3+ years of financial analysis, financial audit, internal audit or public accounting work experience.
* Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles, updating ledger accounts, reconciliation's & accounts payable and receivable processes
* Demonstrated analytical skills; must be extremely detail oriented & effective in production-oriented environment
* Strong oral & written communication skills, including professionally written analytical reports and interpersonal skills
* Demonstrated ability to produce a high quality work product; commitment to accuracy and excellence
* Ability to work independently & as an integral member of a team. 
* Strong results orientation & organizational, follow-up, & follow-through skills
* Strong work ethic; commitment to accuracy and excellence
* Accountability and dependability; consistently takes ownership and gets the job done
* Advanced PC spreadsheet skills in a Windows environment, including Word, Excel & Access
* Ability to balance numerous priorities & deadlines while maintaining professionalism at all times.
* Ability to lead simple projects from start to finish with limited supervision
* Demonstrated ability to improve processes
* Demonstrated problem identification & resolution skills
* Strong customer orientation skills
* Proficiency in operational systems including RIAS, Recon Plus, FAR, CAREs and RMS
* Ability to work overtime as needed

 

Desired Characteristics / Skills
* 2+ years experience in Life Reinsurance
* CPA, MBA, CMA or advanced course work in technical financial areas
* Knowledge of general premium and claims principles
* Successful completion of FLMI or enrollment in LOMA classes
* Business Objects proficiency to create new reports and queries as needed
