Directs and controls the accounting activities of the corporation.  Responsible for general ledger and accounting functions including accounting and financial transactions and reporting as well as managing month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities. Provides proactive consultation and leadership to operating and corporate management on complex accounting issues.  Ensures business unit accounting activities are carried out in accordance with GAAP and established accounting practices, policies and procedures, and in accordance with corporate finance guidelines.

 
   

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

?  Oversees accounting function, ensuring accounting activities are carried out in accordance with established accounting practice, policies and procedures.

 

?  Manages general ledger and related reporting activity, ensuring proper, accurate and timely recording of accounting transactions and reporting.

 

?  Performs general accounting functions such as recording, classifying, and analyzing data for the unit(s) including journal entries and account reconciliations that may require complex transactions and treatments. 

 

?  Applies established accounting principles, theories, concepts, and practices to complex problems, independently applying appropriate analytical procedures.

 

?  Manages various accounting and reporting functions which may include but not be limited to:  GAAP, statutory and management reporting, and involvement in operational planning.  Manages the month-end close process to ensure timely completion of accounting and reporting activities.

 

?  Potentially manages all aspects of reporting to the Securities Exchange Commission including the preparation of financial statements for inclusion in Form 10-Q and Form 10-k

 

?  Implementation and completion of FASB Statement 123 R

. 

?  Identifies business unit management needs and directs financial analyst staff in interpreting and compiling data.  Identifies financial issues affecting the business and develops and implements recommendations for resolution.  Anticipates customer needs for accounting and financial information and analysis and applies this strategically to help the business progress.

 

?  Leads or performs the most complex accounting research and special accounting projects.

 

?  Performs planning and budgeting for the unit(s) to ensure efficient and economical operations.

 

?  Oversees research, design, and maintenance of systems to support business unit accounting needs.

 

Qualified candidates for this position will have :

 



?  Bachelor?s degree in accounting,  and 5 -7 years professional accounting experience preferably witha big four

  accounting firm.

?  Requires advanced accounting theory and practice knowledge to independently manage accounting function for business unit(s).

?  Current experience with Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) reporting.

?  Must be analytical, have proficient pc skills, and possess strong communication skills to successfully partner with and influence business unit leadership.

?  Management experience desirable.

?  Professional designation such as CPA, CMA, MBA or other is preferred.
