Check Services Accounting Manager

Job Description: GENERAL FUNCTION: Lead and manage the Item Processing and Depositor Services Accounting groups within Operations Accounting. Each group has an exempt manager who supervises 6 to 12 non-exempt employees. Act as the controller for the Item Processing, Depositor Services and Mail Operations groups.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


Day-to-day management of the Item Processing and Depositor Services Accounting groups within Operations Accounting.

Ensures that the highest servicing risk factors include preventative and detective controls and appropriate reporting and monitoring to evaluate and measure compliance with controls and risk management.

Understands the critical controls prescribed by FDICIA and works with servicing managers to ensure that these controls are in place and functioning as intended.

Coordinates and facilitates regulatory, external and internal audit requests.

Ensures that all assigned accounts are reconciled, aged and reported timely and accurately, in accordance with GAAP and Bancorp policy.

Maintains optimum efficiency and cost effectiveness by reviewing the area's operational procedures, making recommendations and taking steps to improve productivity.

Analyzes the Servicing area's unit costs. Identifies and implements projects to increase automation, improve processes and reduce expenses.

Works with the Item Processing and Depositor Services Conversion team to test and implement system enhancements.

Works closely with the Business Line, Servicing and IT project teams to successfully implement new procedures and processes.

Coordinates and provides direction for the annual budget process in both the Accounting and Servicing areas.

Works with Servicing managers to validate and improve cost allocation methodologies.

Ensures that departmental procedures, account reconciliation overviews and security profiles are updated on a regular basis.

Troubleshoots issues and problems for Item Processing and Depositor Services Accounting, ensuring that management is made aware of problems of complex nature.

Provides weekly, bi-weekly and monthly Operations Accounting reporting to management as appropriate.

Reviews and approves all transactions processed by Item Processing and Depositor Services Accounting greater than $1 million.

Responsible for approving monthly input in ReconWorks, a database designed to track aged reconciling items for internal operating accounts.

Responsible for working with Item Processing and Depositor Services Servicing managers to review aged holdover/reconciling items and determine those to be charged off each month. Also responsible for preparation of charge-off documentation/entries and obtaining appropriate approval from the Servicing VP and Operations Controller.

Responds to questions from both external and internal customers.

Creates a business resumption plan and performs business impact analyses. Works with the Risk Management group to coordinate recovery testing.

Plans, assigns and monitors the workflow of the group, maintaining optimum efficiency and cost effectiveness.

Ensures that the area is sufficiently staffed, and that the staff is adequately cross-trained to maximize backup coverage and segregation of duties at all times.

Assists in the evaluation and recommendation of resources needed to accommodate increases in volume due to mergers, acquisitions, centralization, and new business. Creates staffing models to support current and future business environments.

Responsible for promoting teamwork and employee development.

Monitors the attendance of subordinates and ensures the accuracy of hours worked. Ensures that departmental payroll records are maintained according to Bancorp policy.

Maintains employee files to provide accurate information regarding performance and details of any corrective disciplinary actions taken.

Administers all human resource policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.

Performs any other duties as assigned.
