Crude Settlements Accounting Supervisor

With volumes of about 14 million barrels of crude oil equivalent per day, spread over Shell's Oil Products, Gas & Power and Chemicals businesses, Shell Trading has the skill base and international scope to capitalize on trading opportunities inherent in Shell's asset and market positions around the world. Shell Trading companies are sited in various locations, with key trading and marketing operations located in the Middle East, Asia, Europe and the Americas ? including North America, South America and Canada.
Shell Trading Services Company is currently seeking a Crude Settlements Accounting Supervisor for its Houston, Texas location.
Responsibilities:
In this position, you will be responsible for leading a group of 15 professional staff that is accountable for a full range of accounting/financial activities and decision-making support. You will play an important role in providing support and daily interaction with traders, inventory, lease, contracts, scheduling and other trading departments, as well as with major trading external customers. You will ensure that direct reports follow controls and processes in accordance with accounting practices and in accordance with SOX controls.
Key Accountabilities Include:
- Ensuring that all domestic crude oil contracts are net settled correctly each month
- Ensuring consistent, effective controls and processes are in place resulting in work being completed in a timely and accurate manner
- Analyzing and reporting the status of related Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable and participate in monthly due diligence process
- Ensuring compliance and embedding of SOX controls
- Ensuring appropriate and timely responses to internal and external audit requests
- Providing support within the team and escalate issues when required
- Providing departmental vision and leadership to achieve organizational goals and continuous performance improvement
- Communicating all relevant information to staff, management and customers
- Performing GPAs and IDPs, including evaluation of technical, personal development and training needs of staff members
- Reporting on service standards for department
- Participating in special projects
- Managing departmental expenditures
Requirements:
To be considered for this position, you must possess a Bachelor?s degree in accounting and approximately 10+ years experience in the financial accounting field. You must have the ability to multi-task and work under tight deadlines. You must have strong analytical and organizational skills and demonstrated ability to lead effectively and work well with other at all levels.
