Successful candidates will come from a high volume (min. $300M+), corporate financial/ accounting background, with a proven track record at a Director or senior management role in Financial Reporting. Position Description
Title: Director of Financial Reporting & Compliance
Region/Level: Financial Services Center
Location: Southfield, MI
Department: Financial Reporting & Compliance
Position Summary:
The Director of Financial Reporting & Compliance acts as a key member of the financial management team in making business decisions and anticipating new accounting treatment for all financial reporting entities. The position oversees and provides leadership to the Group Reporting, North American Reporting, Financial Systems, Policies & Procedures, and Compliance & GL Maintenance departments.
Key Responsibilities Results/Accountabilities
? Manage, mentor, and develop direct reports
? Coordinate the preparation, review and issuance of the financial statements for Lafarge North America, Lafarge Canada Inc. and Blue Circle North America
? Monitor recent accounting literature changes in US and Canadian GAAP and International Accounting Standards to ensure that the Company?s financial statements remain in compliance with current accounting standards
? Review and coordinate significant accounting and reporting issues with senior management and external auditors
? Foster positive team relations with related groups (Product Line Accounting Directors, Group Reporting and Consolidation Competency Center, Treasury, Tax, Internal Audit, Business Regions, etc?) as needed
? Respond to financial and analytical auditor requests
? Interface, as needed, with related groups (Product Line Directors, Tax, Treasury, Business Regions, etc?) on cross-functional efforts impacting the teams
? Act as a resource to Product Lines on GAAP accounting matters
? Coordinate the preparation of new financial reports in response to evolving business needs and priorities
? Assist senior management with special projects as requested
? Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas
? Coordinate the calculation of annual bonus EVA
? Timely and accurate issuance of financial statements, forms, reports
? Effective management of team and development of direct reports
? Effective relationships with Product Line Accounting Directors
? Accurate presentation of new accounting and reporting rules in the financial statements
? Successful management of year-end audits and issuance of audit reports
? Effective adherence to accounting standards and limited company compliance issues
? Enhance the safety culture of Lafarge by including safety on the agenda of each off-site meeting and setting a good example for others in the office
Relationships with Others? Jobs:
? Works closely with Product Line Accounting Directors
? Works closely with Paris Reporting Manager, North American Reporting Manager and Financial Systems Manager
? Interfaces with other Lafarge departments (Senior Management, Tax, Treasury, Business Regions, Internal Audit, etc.) as required
? Interfaces with external auditors as needed to meet statutory requirements
Qualification Profile:
Education and Work Experience:
? Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial reporting
? Minimum 5 years Managerial experience required
? Undergraduate degree in Accounting
? Public accounting experience desirable
? Professional accounting designation required (CMA, CGA, CPA or CA)
Knowledge and Skills:
? Strong leadership and supervisory skills
? Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
? Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both technical and non-technical
