Director I SEC Reporting

The Corporate Accounting Division of Protective Life has an opening for Director I, Financial Reporting, in the Birmingham, Alabama home office. The Director I assists in preparation and review of various SEC filings for the company, prepares accounting reports and analysis and completes special projects as assigned.

Responsibilities
GAAP Reporting: Prepares various quarterly and annual financial reports and footnotes.
SEC Reporting: Prepares SEC filings including quarterly and annual reports, debt offerings and product placements. Works with legal department, investment department, operating divisions, senior management and outside auditors to coordinate formation, review and approval of SEC filings.
General Accounting, account analysis and technical research: Performs calculations and prepares JV?s including consolidation and eliminations; analyzes ledger accounts and prepares schedules to meet the information needs of management; performs accounting research as new technical and authoritative guidance is promulgated.
Special Projects: Prepares and supervises various special projects as needed to streamline and improve value of the department, provides financial analysis and information as needed.

Requirements

BS degree in Accounting, CPA (or progress toward), 2+ years public accounting experience, 2-3 years in GAAP/SEC reporting is strongly preferred, insurance accounting and consolidated financial statement preparation is also preferred.
