Director of Accounting

Responsible for the following functions:  Plan, organize, direct and control the financial reporting, budgeting, local audit activities, planning for Aqua  Resources, Inc.  Supervises the coordination of information for the  Financial Information System (?FIS?) including the recording and reviewing of monthly journal entries and underlying general ledger account analyses.  Responsible for the accounting and preparation of internal financial reports.  Financial planning and maintaining system of internal controls.  Interaction and financial support for non-regulated operations.  Participate in various Aqua America corporate initiatives as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Directly responsible for development and implementation of Company's financial and accounting plans policies and procedures.

Manages input of data into the financial information system including data entered by accounting staff.  Responsible for coordinating data processing, and the preparation of detailed monthly and quarterly financial reports including the general ledger.  Overall responsibility for the preparation of monthly financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, Sarbanes-Oxley and other regulations

Direct responsibility for the preparation of the long-range financial plan and the Annual Operating Budget Package including variance reports and bottom line updates.

Assure protection of company assets with internal controls and audits.
 
Responsible for preparation of journal entries and analyzing balance sheet accounts. Monitors aging of customer accounts receivable and advises operating personnel of collection requirements.

Responsible for monthly reconciliations of the following including the following: Bank statements, accounts receivable, accounts payable, working funds, prepaid and current liability accounts.

Overall responsibility for preparation of quarterly & year-end reports and other reports for governmental agencies and management as necessary.

Direct responsibility for preparation of year-end tax papers and package.

Complete special projects as required by Senior Management.

Provides other Company units and operations with the financial information required for them to carry out their assigned responsibilities.

Compares performance with operating plans and standards, and reports and interprets the results of operations to all levels of management.

Assists Aqua America?s Treasury Department in the processing of debt financings and other treasury matters.

Provide input and support for financial analysis of acquisitions and operating contracts.

BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Responsible for the coordination of the annual operating and capital budgets, 5-year forecasts,  pricing analysis, and equity and financing infusions, fully integrating all components.

Must be able to effectively communicate to management team, regulatory bodies, the financial community, and outside auditors.  Individual must have necessary analytical skills, be well organized and demonstrate the ability to interpret financial and accounting information to assist management in the decision making process.

SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL OR REGISTRATION QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of four-year degree in Accounting or equivalent required.  Minimum of three years of related accounting experience required.  PC, MS Excel, MS Word and Lawson accounting software experience preferred.
