Excise Tax Analyst

The Excise Tax Analyst is responsible for all activities associated with the filing of a set list of excise/sales and use tax returns and is accountable for ensuring such returns are filed accurately and timely.


Accountabilities Include:

Comply with all Sarbane's-Oxley process and documentation requirements as identified and defined by BP tax management.
Analyze data made available through various information reporting systems to determine the current tax liability for a given tax type and tax jurisdiction.
Reconcile corresponding general ledger accounts to ensure that tax payments are in agreement with tax collections.
Reconcile product volume movements to verify proper accounting of receipts and sales.
Respond to inquiries received from both internal and external sources regarding the information reported on tax returns filed.
Keep abreast of changing tax rules to ensure the company remains in compliance and tax returns properly reflect such changes.
Work with Business Unit customer service and tax specialist groups to ensure that customer records properly reflect their tax status and that appropriate exemption certificates are maintained.
Assist the sales/use and excise tax audit coordinators in the conduct of governmental audits.
Review tax return and related processes, make suggestions for changes and improvements to improve efficiencies and accuracy.


Required Qualifications:
To be considered for the role of Excise Tax Analyst applicants must have:

Legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than your current employer.
Minimum of two years experience with excise tax compliance.
Experience with general ledger accounts reconciliation.
Working knowledge of excise/sales and use tax returns.
Minimum of a Bachelors Degree.
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word.
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel.
Basic skills in Microsoft PowerPoint.
Intermediate skills in Microsoft Access.


Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications the successful candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate:

Oil and gas industry experience.
Master's Degree.
Experience with SAP.
Experience with ZYTAX software.
