Area Overview:

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York is seeking a junior analyst to join the Accounting Staff of the Markets Group. The Markets Group is responsible for implementing the U.S. economic policy decisions of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) and the U.S. Treasury. The Group also acts as the operating arm for the U.S. Treasury and Federal Reserve System their Banking relationships with Foreign Central Banks, foreign governments, and international institutions.


The Accounting Staff has the following primary responsibilities:


Accounting Operations - Responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of two of the Markets Groups primary activities, trading for the domestic and foreign securities portfolios and accounting for banking services to foreign central banks and international accounts.
Control - Responsible for the Markets Group's Sarbanes-Oxley compliance program. In addition to a shared responsibility for operational risk management, anomaly analysis and reporting on key risk indicators. Group audit liaison.




Job Responsibilities:

Perform daily accounting activities for domestic securities, FX and foreign currency investment transactions in addition to accounting for transactions executed for foreign central bank and international accounts;
Prepare accounting reports for the activities mentioned above;
Assist in the preparation of documentation and testing of "in scope" processes for the Sarbanes-Oxley effort;
Represent the Markets Group's Accounting area in suggesting system enhancements and their implementation;
Prepare reconciliations of general ledger balances and between systems;
Assist liaison for Markets Group internal and external audits; and
Participate in Markets Group ad hoc projects, as required.

Job Requirements:


Bachelors degree in business with related work experience;
Basic understanding of accounting for financial instruments;
Ability to identify and research issues using applicable resources, formulate solutions and effectively communicate;
Good analytical and quantitative skills and the ability to draw independent conclusions;
Basic understanding of concepts required for a controlled operational environment;
Good problem solving skills;
Excellent organizational skills including attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks;
Good verbal and written communication and presentation skills; and
PC skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.


Must be able to work until 7:00 pm (or until end of day) on a rotational basis.
