Manager, Accounting

AvalonBay Communities, Inc., a national development/construction and property management company, is looking for the right candidate to join our accounting team at our corporate headquarters in Alexandria, VA.

- Reporting to the Controller of Construction/Development, your main priority will be to supervise accounting staff and oversee the timely and accurate preparation of monthly financial statements.
- You will be responsible for ensuring the timely preparation of 1099s, monthly payroll entries and Construction and Development OH Budgets.
- In this important role, you will ensure that jobcost reports, analytical reviews, petty cash audits and other scheduled audits are completed timely and accurately.
- As part of the Construction Accounting Group, you will also collaborate with Construction Associates, Development Associates and all other AVB groups to ensure requests are successfully carried out.

Required Skills:
- Qualified candidates will have a degree in Accounting from an accredited business school (GPA of 3.0 or higher) and 5+ years accounting experience. Public accounting experience at the senior staff level and a CPA is preferred.
- Our ideal candidate has the ability to effectively train and supervise Staff Accountants, deliver under pressure, and work well on a team.
- Knowledge of the spreadsheet software and strong analytical, time management and organizational skills are required.
- We are seeking a customer focused individual who is willing to work on a flexible schedule (this position includes overtime)
