Manager, Accounting Office

Position Summary:

 

Provides direction and supervision to the accounting and office services staff of Cedar Memorial Funeral Home & Cemetery by overseeing a variety of functions including, but not limited to:  industry specific software, managing the daily and monthly AR/AP processing and assist with preparation of the monthly financial reports: directing phone receptionist and related customer service inquiry activities; directing the processing of all required documentation and records retention for the office; acting as payroll support; managing various banking and bank reconciliation activities; and working closely and effectively with the Vice President and CEO in handling other business responsibilities as needed. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following.  Other duties may be assigned as needed. 

 

1. Oversees all general accounting functions for the office on a daily and monthly basis including AR, AP, industry specific software, information technology and related banking activities. 

 

2. Works in close cooperation with the Vice President in Trust Management and reporting.  Assists with preparation of monthly financial reports, identifies past due accounts, exceptions to budgeted expenditures or income, and informs management of other items needing attention. 

 

3. Effectively develops, motivates, and supervises assigned staff.  Schedules and assigns their regular work activities, directs phone receptionists and related customer service inquiries, and provides back up assistance as needed. 

 

4. Directs the preparation of all assigned documentation and the handling of all required records in accordance with the standards established by the Funeral Home & Cemetery assuring that all documentation is prepared in an accurate, timely manner with consistent customer service excellence. 

 

5.  Handles banking activities including making deposits, preparing checks, and overseeing bank account reconciliation.

 

6. Coordinates maintenance of office equipment including related service contracts.

 Utilizes computer based word processing, accounting and record keeping systems to effectively reduce manual record keeping functions and to generate improved and more timely reports.  Instructs staff as needed concerning the effective use of these systems.

 Works closely and effectively with the Vice President and CEO in handling a variety of other business responsibilities as needed to support the overall operations of the Funeral Home & Cemetery.

 Actively demonstrates continuing professional development by personal study, attendance at accounting/office supervision seminars, and other similar efforts.

 Follows safety policies and procedures.

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  Has regular and direct supervisory and work scheduling responsibilities for accounting and administrative employees.   

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

 

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:  Post high school education in Business or Accounting required with B.A. degree from an accredited college or university.  Five or more years of successful full time experience in handling business accounting and office services functions required with previously successful staff supervision a must. Proficient computer skills (word processing and spreadsheet) including computer based accounting and record keeping software required.  Working knowledge of basic information technology.  Superior interpersonal skills needed.  Strong working knowledge of compliance and regulatory reporting requirements needed. Strong customer service skills and ability to maintain positive relationships with others under occasionally stressful situations also needed.  Attention to detail and accuracy required.  Must express initiative, leadership and the energy to work additional hours under tight schedules when required.

 

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:  Above-average judgment needed to deal with confidential information and to handle a variety of supervisory and customer service functions.  Must be able to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and to read and process a variety of detailed written materials.  Must have above average problem solving skills.  Must be able to perform light work activities including stooping, reaching, walking, fingering, hearing, standing, and talking and repetitive motions.  Work is usually performed in a sitting position without significant lifting, but some regular standing may also be required.  Work is usually done inside in a pleasant professional atmosphere free from exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
