Non Profit Controller

This position is primarily responsible for all financial transactions, including accounts payable, payroll, accounts receivable, investments, and cash and for ensuring their timely, complete, and accurate reporting in the general ledger.? This person will also be responsible for preparing GAAP financial statements; coordinating the annual external audit with the independent auditing firm; preparing accounting and budget reports, as well as at the sponsored-project level (internally and externally-funded projects), including determining indirect charges; and compiling financial data needed for preparing the Form 990. Reporting is also required on the building owned and occupied by the organization and on the space leased to others, as well on the bonds that were issued to finance the purchase of the building.

?Minimum of three years of experience in not-for-profit accounting and financial reporting required of 501(c) (3) non profits, including experience as a hands-on controller/accounting manager supervising staff and sharing in the day-to-day work of the department while demonstrating a high capacity for attention to detail. Must possess core competencies, including demonstrated excellent decision making ability, interpersonal skills, priority setting, strategic agility, and being innovative, results oriented, client focused, and accountable. Experience in preparing GAAP financial statements and developing budgets at the organization and department level. Experience with grant management (i.e., with financial aspects of foundation, state, and/or federal grants) and sponsored projects, including budget preparation for proposals, project-level financial tracking, and reporting of sponsored projects and grants. Self-starter with excellent technical and analytical skills in accounting and finance, as well as computer literacy with financial systems, Great Plains and FRX is required.?? Well-developed people and communication skills, customer service focus, strong teamwork skills, and ability to multitask. Experience in monitoring and assuring compliance with the currently evolving definitions and requirements of sound corporate financial governance, fiduciary responsibilities, tax and regulatory requirements, and reporting transparency. Experience specific to a research institute or university or private operating foundation is preferred. Experience in risk management, accounting for building/real estate, debt financing, and a CPA are desirable. Minimum of a B.A. in accounting or finance or equivalent experience
