Payroll/Accounting Assistant

National organization headquartered in Washington, DC is recruiting for a Payroll/Accounting Assistant, with Lawson experience, to process semi-monthly payroll in a timely and accurate manner for approximately 450 employees.

Work objectives include assisting as needed with payroll year-end reconciliations, handling lockbox deposits, monthly journal entries, finance petty cash, annual inventory or other payroll and accounting related duties as assigned.  Other duties include preparing and filing with limited assistance from the Payroll Supervisor tax returns with payments for income tax withholding, unemployment and disability tax reports for various localities (cities and counties), covering twelve states and the Internal Revenue Service;reconciling general ledger tax accounts to payroll and deposits; and researching accounting codes and keying travel related invoices monthly.

Qualifications needed to insure your success are two or more years' course work in Finance or Accounting, with at least two years' prior payroll related work experience in a computerized environment.  Good MS Word and Excel skills and Lawson payroll experience is a plus.
