Property Staff Accountant/Systems
Primary function:
Perform accounting/system support functions for commercial properties consisting of
office, retail and garage space. This position requires close coordination with Corporate
Accounting, AR/AP, Lease Administration and Systems Manager.
Essential Accounting functions:
? Maintain cash tax and GAAP accrual general ledgers.
? Prepare and process monthly journal entries. Produce monthly financials according to
the established schedule, and analyze results. Communicate concerns to the
Accounting Manager
? Prepare and maintain monthly work papers as described in the standardized work
paper model. This includes reconciling monthly bank statements.
? Review expense deferred leasing and capital purchases for accurate coding and
payment. Resolve issues with property manager as necessary.
? Perform budget and reprojection input.
? Cross train in other accounting functions (A/P, A/R and Lease Administration) and
provide backup support as needed. Review and understand A/P, A/R, and Lease
Administration entries, reports, and schedules.
? Perform special projects as needed and provide support to the accounting and property
management teams.
Essential System functions:
? Troubleshoot system questions and problems within each department (imports, uploads,
downloads, system rejections).
? Prepare and maintain financial statements.
? Perform chart of account maintenance and creation.
? Manage and compile report designs for company reporting (Monthly, Quarterly, and Yearly).
? Perform month and year-end closing maintenance.
? Perform special projects as needed to support Controller/CFO.
? Assist in upgrading of accounting software and files based on manufacture specifications.
? Automation of accounting tasks (work order system, job cost, escalations, straight-line and Argus integration with Timberline).
? Maintain and create Citrix remote sites.
? Work with Tax Department for year-end tax statements by taxable entity.
Reporting relationship:
The Property Accountant/Systems reports to the Accounting/Systems Manager.
Other relationships:
Direct communication with Corporate Personnel, Accounting Staff, Lease
Administration, Property Management, Asset Management, SEC Reporting, HPT Group,
SNH Group, MIS, and Consultants.
Education:
Bachelor?s Degree, preferably in accounting or business administration.
Computer skills:
Proficiency with Property Management/Accounting software (Timberline), Access,
Excel, Word, Microsoft Query, Microsoft Explorer, and ODBC Driver.
Experience:
2-3 year of accounting and systems experience, preferably with knowledge of the
Commercial Real Estate Industry.
