This position is responsible for the collection, processing and analysis of diverse sets of data from financial and monetary reports that are submitted by financial institutions to the Federal Reserve Bank (FRB) of San Francisco. The data and supporting remarks are used by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the FRB of New York, the Department of the Treasury, other divisions within the FRB of San Francisco, depository institutions, and external financial analysts.



The principal responsibilities consist of:
ensuring the timely production of accurate data series;
investigating and explaining data fluctuations and anomalies;
researching and applying Federal Reserve regulations and policies on data reporting;
responding clearly and knowledgeably, by telephone and email, to requests for information on complex reporting issues;
testing and implementing changes to automated data collection, editing and analysis systems;
identifying, documenting and analyzing broad data quality issues; and
participating in other bank wide projects.


Essential Skills
Reports Analyst I:

B.A./B.S., preferably with an emphasis in business, finance or social science (e.g., economics, political science, etc.), or equivalent related experience;
six months to one year work experience in a related field; sound knowledge of banking terminology and practices, and accounting concepts;
proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets and other PC software, as well as with email and the internet;
competency in mathematics, including arithmetic, algebra and descriptive statistics;
inductive reasoning and troubleshooting skills
excellent verbal and written communication skills;
a demonstrated aptitude to respond quickly and productively in an environment characterized by multiple tasks and tight deadlines.



Reports Analyst II: All of the above, plus

one to two years experience in a related field;
extensive knowledge of banking terminology and practices, and accounting concepts;
knowledge of database concepts and data querying tools; an established ability of independently resolving complex banking and regulatory reporting issues.



Reports Analyst III: All of the above, plus

two to four years experience in a related field;
advanced knowledge of banking terminology and practices, and accounting concepts;
advanced knowledge of database concepts and data querying tools;
an established ability to independently resolve complex banking and regulatory reporting issues;
experience developing, programming and testing business rules for data editing and calculating derived data.
