SENIOR STAFF ACCOUNTANT

United Stationers primarily serves commercial and contract office products dealers. 

 

We have a challenging opportunity available in our Corporate General Accounting Department for a detail-oriented, hands-on Senior Staff Accountant with exceptional technical and analytical capabilities.  The selected individual will possess a CPA certification and be responsible for providing support for the Company and its subsidiaries on a broad variety of accounting close and related activities. 

 

Specific responsibilities include:

 

? Manage Accounting projects including monthly general ledger activities, account reconciliation for various balance sheet accounts, month end closing processes, budget preparation and analysis and stock based compensation accounting.

? Record entries associated with an asset-backed securitization program

? Conduct extensive research on various technical accounting issues and compile, interpret and communicate findings

? Prepare SEC financial statement disclosures and internal management reports

? Prepare schedules for and answer questions from external auditors, including items related to Sarbanes-Oxley process management and testing

? Write internal accounting policies

? Provide regular communication to internal and external customers and coordinate field activities with auditors

? Provide accounting and technical training to other staff members

 

Requirements include:

 

? Bachelor?s degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline required

? 4 - 6 years of related experience as an accountant

? CPA, required

? MBA and/or prior public accounting experience, a plus

? Strong technical accounting skills (including FASB, SEC and PCAOB)

? Exposure to Sarbanes Oxley accounting requirements and processes

? Proven experience with inter-company transactions and consolidations

? Experience using financial systems (People Soft preferred)

? Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint and Excel (advanced))

? Exceptional analytical skills and ability to interpret and communicate data to various levels of staff

? Proven skills in project management and problem solving

? Strong communication skills (verbal and written)

? Excellent interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills

? Ability to prioritize, multi-task and maintain flexibility in a fast-paced environment

? Willingness to take on additional responsibility and learn new skills

? Minimal travel may be required
