SR Revenue Recognition Accountant

A leader in Business Intelligence with revenues upwards of 200MIL seeks a Senior Revenue Recognition Accountant to join their force. This company is rock solid and has international presence.

 

General Function

Provide consultation to the sales and contracts teams during sales cycles and prepare final revenue recognition accounting conclusions and supporting documentation on worldwide software contracts. Position reports to the Director of Revenue Accounting. This position will be focused primarily on reviewing US software license and services revenue arrangements and secondarily on international license and services revenue arrangements



 

Position Description

Serve as a technical reference for the sales and contracts teams during the contract negotiation process by analyzing the impact of ?red flag? contract terms, communicating the revenue impact of such terms, and offering alternative structures, if available.



Review and analyze software contracts and document significant terms and accounting conclusions.



Perform, analyze, and summarize accounting research related to revenue recognition.



Assist the Director of Revenue Accounting in support of MicroStrategy?s quarterly review and annual audit. Work with the appropriate Contracts attorneys and International finance team to resolve audit and review questions and issues.



Participate in periodic communication, updates, and training covering revenue recognition policies affecting the contracts department, sales force, international finance team, and country managers.



Assist with quarterly review and analysis of the CATS contract system for worldwide contracts to ensure revenue recognition completeness.



Assist in preparation of financial statement disclosures relating to revenue, including gathering and summarizing worldwide revenue recognition, accounts receivable, deferred revenue and other relevant areas.



Assist in ongoing updates of the Worldwide Contracts and Revenue Recognition Policies and Procedures.



Preparation and completion of other projects and tasks that may be required from time-to-time.



Skills Requirements

Bachelors Degree in accounting, CPA + 3 years experience (prefer public accounting experience)



Experience in software industry revenue recognition



Knowledge of SOP 97-2, SOP 81-1, SAB 101 and other software revenue recognition accounting literature



Strong financial reporting and accounting skills



Detail oriented and strong documentation skills



Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently



Strong analytical skills



Strong communication skills



Appropriate handling of confidential information



Strong Computer skills: proficiency in MS Excel, Accounting Software packages such as JD Edwards.



Work Conditions

Travel: This job may require periodic domestic and International travel.
