Senior Accountant - (KM11647)

Centene Corporation provides multi-line managed care programs and related services to individuals receiving benefits in Medicaid, including Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and the State Children's Health Insurance (SCHIP). Centene operates health plans in seven states. In addition, the Centene contracts with other healthcare organizations to provide specialty services including behavioral health, disease management, nurse triage and treatment compliance.

POSITION PURPOSE: Maintain accurate financial records for the preparation of monthly financial statements and participate in special projects.

POSITION QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge/Experience: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, a comparable discipline or commensurate experience. Three to five years experience in public accounting or the health care industry.

Skills/ Competencies: Highly self-motivated, organized and efficient. Knowledge of spreadsheet applications. Working knowledge of applicable Microsoft software applications. Effective verbal and written communication skills.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS & ACCOUNTABILITIES:
General Accounting: Prepare the monthly financial statement-reporting package. Maintain fixed asset accounting system, including purchasing, depreciation and disposals. Perform account analysis on various balance sheet and income statement accounts. Maintain general ledger accounting software system.
Cash Cycle: Maintain cash receipts and cash disbursement journal. Review and approve the release of all accounts payable checks. Perform monthly bank reconciliation on all accounts. Order and approve the release of Medicaid capitation payments. Monitor the availability of cash for investment purposes. Review and reconcile monthly investment summary received from the investment advisor. Order and approve the release of all claims payable check runs. Reconcile various claims payable accounts.
Medicaid Enrollment: Prepare and maintain Medicaid enrollment summaries. Reconcile and review Medicaid enrollment reports to checks received from the state.
Supervision: Assist in the supervision of and provide back up for the payroll and accounts payable functions.
