Senior Bookkeeper/Financial Associate

The purpose of the department is to complete the financial closing for the Allstate owned companies.  The scope of this job is General ledger account reconciliations to support the Company's internal control structure and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.  Performs complex activities related to the maintenance of accounting/financial records and the preparation of financial/technical reports.  The position is located in Northbrook, Illinois.

 

The individual will be responsible for:

 

1. Completing general ledger account reconciliations.

2. The investigation and clearing of reconciling items.

3. Monthly and quarterly reporting to meet department and Sarbanes-Oxley deliverables. 

4. Analyzing account balances for appropriate activity and trends.

5. Assist in month-end close and related analysis.

 

The skills required are:

 

1. Intermediate - Good verbal and written communication skills.

2. Beginner - Analytical and problem solving skills.

3. Beginner - Knowledge of GAAP and statutory accounting a plus.

4. Beginner - Knowledge of financial statement reporting and related analysis a plus.  Ability to assemble and communicate findings.

5. Beginner - Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage assigned workflow.

 

Experience Required:

-Prior accounting or bookkeeping experience required. 

-Account reconciliation experience preferred. 

 

Computer Proficiency:

-Solid PC skills utilizing Excel and Word. 

-Knowledge of SAP accounting system a plus.

 

Education:

-High School or Equivalent  - Preferred, Major preference: Some college level accounting classes preferred.
