Senior Staff Accountant - Corporate Accounting

Phoenix American Incorporated, a mid-sized company in San Rafael, is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant in our Corporate Accounting department.

 

This position will assist in streamlining month-end billing procedures, perform or review account analysis and reconciliations and monthly amoritization calculations, compile quarterly accounting work-paper files, and assist controller with quarterly reporting projects to upper management.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions

Review contracts, orders and vouchers, and prepare reports to substantiate individual transactions prior to settlement

Analyze accrual accounts and make adjusting entries

Prepare reconciliations

Maintain accounting schedules

Analyze financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital, and draft consolidated financial statements and footnotes, to summarize and interpret current and projected company financial position

Compile and prepare financial statements and operational reports

Assist auditors with financial statement audits and reviews

Document general ledger and accounting process flows and procedures

Participate as needed with various operational projects

Research of accounting and SEC reporting issues as assigned

Interact with internal departments, clients and external service providers

Peer review of work performed by other accountants in the group for accuracy and completeness

REQUIREMENTS:

- BS in Accounting or Finance, 4 years or more experience preferred
- Good working knowledge of GAAP
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Products
- Good verbal and written communication
- Analytical, detail-oriented and organized
- Knowledge of Oracle, SAP other enterprise accounting software preferred
