Senior Tax Accountant - International Operations

Position Responsibilities:

Responsible for U.S. tax compliance and accounting related to international outbound operations for Verizon Business. Position reports to Director, International Tax-Verizon Business, and works with European and Asian operations, and Corporate (Tax, Finance, Treasury, and Legal). This position demands a high degree of accountability, accuracy, initiative, and timeliness. The candidate must be self-motivated, yet comfortable in a team environment.

Tax Compliance: Preparation/review of Forms 5471, 8858, 8865, and 1118.Preparation/review of Federal and State tax returns, mindful of tax impact of international transactions, and familiarity with Schedule M-3.Compute earnings and profits and tax basis of foreign corporations.Recognize and quantify Subpart F income inclusions and exceptions.Perform quarterly estimated tax payment calculations.Familiarity with the working concepts of corporate reorganizations.Experience with US and non-US income tax transfer pricing rules and compliance.Maintenance of International tax package and tax calendar.Participation in tax audits.

Tax Accounting: Preparation, substantiation, and review of current and deferred tax accruals, FAS 109 work papers, effective tax rate analysis, and tax return to provision reconciliations.Monitor accruals, reserves, and valuation allowances of international segment.Application of Subpart F rules to intercompany transactions.Performing calculations with respect to APB 23 and annual tax footnote.Proficient in purchase accounting, with ability to recognize book/tax differences in investments.Documenting processes and substantiation of current and deferred taxes for SOX 404 purposes.

Research and Planning: Review current operations and intercompany transactions; propose changes to optimize tax structures consistent with our business needs and objectives.Consult with internal departments regarding FAS 109 impacts of proposed transactions.Assist in the development of tax planning strategies and due diligence.Research and stay abreast of changes in tax accounting, laws, rulings, and regulations.Develop relationships with Finance, Accounting, Treasury, and Legal, and liaison with external consultants.

 Required Skills and Experience:Five or more years experience in public and/or corporate tax and accounting.Minimum of two years in International Tax.PC proficient with expertise in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).BBA/BS in Accounting required or equivalent work experience.Strong verbal and written communication skills.

 Desired Skills and Experience:CPA, MBA/MS in Taxation or JD desired.Knowledge of CorpTax ETS, Hyperion, PeopleSoft, SAP, and Essbase desired.
