Sr Accountant - Raleigh

JOB DESCRIPTION   JOB SUMMARY Carries out broad and complex assignments requiring comprehensive knowledge in the field of specialization and of the organization in order to interpret and apply organization policies, as well as develop recommendations for change.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

 

Reports and advises on organization?s financial status during the annual budgeting process.

 

Analyzes records of financial transactions to determine accuracy and completeness of entries.

 

May close month-end accounting books.  Reconciles balance sheet and profit and loss statement.

 

Prepares various financial reports to include but not limited to; balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and income and expense variance reports for internal and external customers.

 

May perform allocation of management fee expenses based on square footage.

 

May review invoices for proper account coding.

 

Conducts special studies, develops, or recommends enhancements to accounting methods and procedures.

 

May record the monthly activity of consolidated and non-consolidated investments. 

 

Ability to record complex business transactions in the general ledger as well as prepare and/or review bank reconciliation for various accounts.

 

Ability to train and review the work of accountants and accounting clerks for accuracy.

 

May oversee the completion of projects including planning; assigning, monitoring and reviewing progress and accuracy of work; evaluating results, etc.

 

Other duties may be assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordinates and assigns tasks to co-workers within a work unit and/or project.  Coordinates the work to be completed but is not responsible for formal supervision of employees.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year College or university and a minimum of two to four years of related experience and/or training.

Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex business documents. Ability to write reports, manuals, speeches and articles using distinctive style.  Ability to effectively respond to sensitive issues, complex inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, supervisor, and/or management.  Ability to make effective presentations on general topics to an internal department, large group of employees, clients, and/or management. Ability to motivate employees and client groups to take desired action.

FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE

Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of options in varying situations. Requires advance knowledge of accounting theory and principles as well as advanced analytical and quantitative skills.

 REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve problems involving several options in situations. Requires intermediate analytical and quantitative skills.

 OTHER SKILLS and/or ABILITIES

Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite and a thorough knowledge of accounting principles.

 SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

Decisions made with understanding of procedures, company policies, and business practices to achieve general results and deadlines. Responsible for setting work unit and/or project deadlines.  Errors in judgment may cause short-term impact to department.
