Cooper Industries is a $4.7 billion manufacturer of electrical products and tools, with factories, offices, and sales in over 50 countries. Cooper manufactures thousands of products through its seven electrical products divisions, which generate over 80 percent of annual revenues, and two tool divisions, which produce power tool and hand tool lines.  Cooper Industries is currently seeking strong, results-oriented candidates for the following position at their corporate headquarters in downtown Houston: Senior Management Control Auditor 

 

GENERAL PURPOSE

 

Assist or conduct original work in planning scheduled audits and in the development of programs designed to perform audits or reviews of Company operations; review business processes and underlying transaction systems to identify unmitigated business risks and weaknesses in internal controls; prepare accurate and complete workpaper documentation which evidences the work performed and substantiates the conclusions drawn; prepare "Audit Reports" identifying weaknesses and discrepancies and recommending corrective actions.

 

NATURE

 

Senior management control auditors may function as management liaison or as support auditors during their career in the audit department.  The classification will vary with experience and assignments.

 

The position reports directly to an audit manager and is responsible to other audit team members on project assignments and is under the general direction of the Director, Internal Audit.

 

The senior management control auditors interact with division personnel at various levels from clerks to division officers in order to obtain information.  It is expected that there will also be a certain amount of contact with public accountants.  Contact with Corporate personnel will be necessary during the planning stages of an assignment.

 

The senior management control auditors will be required to work under budget constraints since assignments are budgeted as to time and scope.  The position requires travel out of the city of about 25-28 weeks per year.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 Plan or assist in the planning of scheduled audits and SOX 404 reviews by obtaining information necessary for the preparation of planning memos, including financial data and analysis, and other relevant information Perform audit fieldwork and SOX 404 testing. Prepare, assemble and organize workpapers in an orderly fashion to concisely document work performed and to facilitate effective review.Conduct closing conference with local management upon completion of fieldwork.Prepare "Audit Report", detailing weaknesses and discrepancies found and recommendations for corrective action, from the initial draft prepared in the field, the results of the closing conference, and management responses.Interact with management at all levels, conveying the department?s guiding principles of integrity, respect, teamwork, innovation and excellence.

 

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, ABILITY OR SKILL 

 Bachelor?s degree in Accounting is preferred.  Consideration will be given to candidates with other business degrees, e.g., Business Administration, Finance, etc. CPA or CIA preferred. 2-4 years of broad-based experience.  Preference is given to candidates with public accounting firm and/or internal audit experience and individuals experienced auditing in an SAP environment or within a manufacturing company.  Must have a good understanding of internal controls (general and accounting) and of documentation techniques and standards.Must be able to exercise reasonable judgment under varying circumstances.Must be tactful, diplomatic and able to communicate effectively and convincingly.Must have demonstrated flexibility in work experience and must be able to function comfortably in unstructured situations with minimum supervision.
