Sr. Financial Analyst Mid-Career Opportunity to Budget, Forecast and Analyze
Senior Financial Analyst ~ Mid-Career Opportunity to Budget, Forecast and Analyze
As senior financial analyst for the Charlotte office of Hanson Brick and Tile, a division of Hanson Building Products North America, your critical and analytical thinking will establish you as the key player behind our financial reporting and consolidations. This is an ideal role for the accountant with approximately 6 years of professional accounting work, whose experience, interests and mindset are directed toward budgeting, forecasting and analysis rather than traditional back office functions. Working with our 12-person corporate finance group and a financial analyst as a direct report, you will have visibility across a wide spectrum of our organization, from the brick and tile plant manager who produces raw data to our division president who reviews your conclusions. This is the perfect opportunity to position yourself for a wider role in finance and accounting that includes more emphasis on operations and will take you beyond the traditional accounting hierarchy.
Hanson is a worldwide organization operating in 14 countries as a leader in heavy construction materials manufacturing. Total employees world wide number approximately 25,000 with about 10,000 of these working within our U.S. affiliate, Hanson Building Materials America (HBMA). We are the largest producer of aggregates and concrete pipe and precast concrete products in the world and are the third largest producer of ready-mixed concrete. Our other principal products are bricks and concrete roofing tiles. We conduct business activities in North America, the UK, Continental Europe, Australia and Asia. We offer competitive salaries and benefit packages.
As our Charlotte, North Carolina-based senior financial analyst, your first challenge will be gaining traction on the key drivers in our business. Prior experience with Hyperion/Essbase will allow you to hit the ground running as it's the tool we use for reporting and data manipulation. Your ability to scrutinize reports produced by our field-level controllers, and insightfully deduce that the information is fairly represented, will be crucial to your success. This is a role where you will be most effective by not taking a plant manager's or field controller's assumptions at face value, which means you must be able to critically analyze the integrity of data without questioning the integrity of the data provider. As always, a solid understanding of GAAP will guide your reasoning and help weigh the effects on production, inventory, pricing, currency fluctuations and capital expenditures. During the year you will help drive a critical and lengthy program that applies a 40-criteria measuring stick to gauge the performance of employees who are on the company's incentive program. On the budgeting side, updated forecasts are produced twice a year and your assessment of market conditions, changes in plan and competitive influences will ensure that the revamped statistics are on target. Since this is not a back-office function, the pace of the job is non-traditional and the work is not routine, which should hold strong appeal for the candidate we're seeking.
