NATIONAL TAX OFFICE - STATE & LOCAL TAX (SALT) - SENIOR ACCOUNTANT

The National Tax Office in Washington, D.C. exists as the nationwide technical support center for serving the federal tax needs of our professionals and clients. We all recognize that the constant changes, either legislative or interpretative, to our federal tax laws can be a trap for the unwary as well as a window of opportunity for the informed. Also recognizing that professionals in our operating offices cannot be expected to daily monitor such changes, the National Tax Office personnel are dedicated on a full-time basis to having a thorough and practical understanding of the tax law.

The National Tax Office Professionals provide the following services:
- Render advice regarding specific technical issues
- Assist with tax return positions and IRS examination issues
- Monitor legislative and interpretative developments
- Initiate informal technical inquiries with the National Office of the Internal Revenue Service
- Issue tax opinion letters pertaining to, for example, tax-free reorganizations and spin-off transactions
- Assist with transaction planning
- Identify tax savings opportunities for prospective clients
- Speak at selected seminars and conferences

We are looking for experienced professionals in Washington, DC to consult with clients and Grant Thorntons U.S. offices on a wide range of State and Local Tax (SALT) accounting issues.

Qualifications:
- Minimum 2-3 years prior experience in consulting on State and Local Tax (SALT) accounting issues.
- Bachelors degree in Accounting and LLM in Taxation preferred
- Government, Big 4/ Regional and/or Legal Firm exp. preferred
- Must have excellent research skills, presentation skills for conducting training at GT offices, and written communication skills
- Must also be able to supply writing samples for review
- Ability to work additional hours as needed and travel upon occasion
