Staff Accountant I

Houston Casualty Company, a subsidiary of HCC Insurance Holdings, Inc., is seeking an entry level Staff Accountant to add to our growing Accounting department at our Northwest Houston corporate office.  Eligible candidates will have a Bachelors degree in Accounting/Finance, or equivalent, and 1 - 2 years of relevant experience.

 

Requirements: 

 

?  Good analytical skills

?  Ability to understand and apply accounting concepts and internal policies and procedures to solve a variety of fairly complex problems

?  Intermediate PC skill Microsoft Office Suite of applications, especially Excel and Word

?  Good oral and written communication skills

?  Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as needed by position and supervisor

?  Insurance experience a plus

 

Job Summary:  Maintains one or a combination of general accounting systems.  Provides record of assets, liabilities and other financial transactions.

 

Responsibilities: 

 

?  Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions

?  Establish, modify, document, and coordinate implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures

?  Perform General ledger duties to assist with monthly activity and closings

?  Perform monthly reconciliation of accounts receivable/claims payable/claims receivable to general ledger balances

?  Compile and analyze financial information and prepare entries into the general ledger, reconcile account, closes the account on a monthly basis

?  Prepare monthly bank reconciliations for premium/claims/operating accounts

?  Assist with statutory quarterly and annual filings

?  Understand and apply basic accounting concepts, such as revenue/expense recognition, cut off, classifications, etc.
