Job Purpose: Responsible for performing various tax department functions including income, sales, use, and property tax compliance. Essential Functions: Assist with various tax research, planning, and correspondence. Take lead role in the functions of sales, use and property tax compliance. Assist with preparation of income tax filings and FAS 109 calculations Take lead role in the review and maintenance of Nelnet?s tax depreciation schedules. Assist with state credit filings. Provide support for tax-related items associated with the acquisition and integration of various targets. Oversee Nelnet business registration filings. Experience: 2+ years of tax compliance and return preparation. Tax research and planning experience. A general knowledge of GAAP, HR and legal related issues. Public accounting experience preferred. Preferred: RIA or CCH tax research tools. RIA tax return software. Great Plains accounting software. CPA Designation. Skills: Exhibit Energy and Drive. Focused on consistent, high-quality results. Efficiency/Accountability: Allocates time efficiently, focusing on ever-shifting priorities; continually seeks ways to improve individual and team productivity. Highly accountable and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast paced dynamic environment. Effective follow through skills. Effective communication skills. Excellent business judgment and strong analytical skills. Possessing strong organization skills. Broad business knowledge (law, accounting, tax and human resources preferred). Ability to work independently. Functional knowledge of tax code and regulations. Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Must be able to work flexible hours and shifts.
