Vice President of Accounting and Finance

Continental Broadband, located in Norfolk, Virginia, has an immediate need for a Vice President of Accounting and Finance.  Continental Broadband is a growing telecommunications company, expanding operations in multiple cities across the U.S.  The VP will be responsible to direct and oversee all the financial activities of the corporation including preparation of current financial reports, providing summaries and forecasts for business planning and growth, and oversight and implementation of financial controls and measurement and reporting systems.  Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice President of Accounting and Finance will be responsible to develop appropriate financial strategies to ensure Continental Broadband?s success and profitability.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

? Act as compliance officer of Continental Broadband by ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, corporate policies & Landmark Communications? ethics standards.

? Direct the preparation of all financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, & tax returns.  Provide visibility on actual performance versus proof-of-concept metric targets associated with incremental strategic investment from Landmark Communications.  Support the President and CEO in the preparation of monthly, quarterly & annual reports on financial performance.

? Gather data & prepare reports to analyze projections of sales & profit against actual revenue figures, budgeted expenses against actual, & suggest & implement methods to improve the planning process as appropriate.  Ensure receivables are collected in a timely manner.  Meet regularly with department heads & other officers to provide status reports & offer direction.

? Oversee the accounting department, budget preparation, & audit functions.  Implement & use software systems to meet reporting requirements as necessary.  Coordinate internal/external audits with Landmark, our external auditor, & individual operating units on an as needed basis.  Recognize & implement accounting changes necessitated by operational change in a timely manner.  Enforce financial discipline & guidelines to create necessary controls.

? Provide advice on all significant business decisions.  Work with other officers & department heads to project company prospects for future growth in overall sales & market share.  Review & approval all significant leases & contracts.  Identify & implement cost savings & operating efficiencies.  Participate in special contract negotiations & approve non-standard rates. 

? Estimate requirements for capital expenses & working capital & manage cash accordingly.  Track capital spending against budgets & ROI assumptions.  Work with Landmark as required to request funding. 

? Ensure accurate accounting.  Establish company-wide accounting & internal control policies & procedures to produce accurate, timely & reliable financial information consistent with GAAP, Landmark Communications? accounting policies, & Landmark audit guidelines.  Ensure invoices are properly documented, approved & paid in a timely manner. 

? Direct the annual budget process.  Work with the COO & individual General Managers to develop detailed revenue & cost projections.

? Participate in acquisition activity.  Support acquisition diligence on financial, accounting, & other back office processes as required by the deal leader.  Oversee all post-acquisition financial integration activities to fully integrate all new acquisitions into corporate systems & process frameworks.

? Identify & mitigate risks by reviewing contract indemnification or warranty language.  Review new business activities for potential inherent risk.  Reassess existing business activities for new risks due to external changes.  Ensure adequate disaster recovery plans are in place. 

? As needed & approved by President and CEO, build a financial organization at Continental Broadband, Inc.  Select & hire personnel with the experience & skills needed to perform approved jobs, evaluate & develop finance personnel, & support effective development & training of staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

? Minimum of bachelor?s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.  Qualified candidate must be a CPA or have an equivalent professional qualification (e.g. Certified Management Accountant, Chartered Accountant) or MBA.

? Knowledge of database & accounting computer application systems to supply accurate financial information & reports.

? Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in corporate accounting/finance, including a minimum of 5 years of management experience. 

? Ideal candidate will have experience in a similar role in a start-up company or division, with demonstrated record of contribution to the business & successful performance of duties.

? Presence & stature to deal with Landmark?s financial staff & executive team.
