Preparation and Quality Control of Media to be used in microbiological assays.
Culturing and identification of significant bacteria or other microorganisms isolated on selective and non-selective media controlling factors such as moisture, temperature, and specific growing conditions.
Maintains cultures according to ATCC and departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
Samples USP water, City water and the manufacturing environment. Performs tests according to specifications and specific procedures in order to monitor the adequacy of such critical systems.
Performs specific USP-Microbiological vitamin assays in multi-vitamin formulations.
Performs identification of microorganisms using techniques such as API, Gram Stain, etc.
Use and maintain micro laboratory instruments such as but not limited to: Vitek, Microscope, analytical balance, pH meter, etc.
Assist in testing of samples for internal customers such as validation, R&D, operations, among others.
Interprets and reports results of microbiological analysis in approved notebooks, control documents, protocols, and logbooks, following Good Documentation Practices.
Logs specific samples and report results into specific Network systems (i.e. POMS, GEMMS, LIMS, etc.) according to quality departmental policies and SOPs.
Verifies co-workers data and results in appropriate notebooks/logbooks and pertinent Network systems.
Initiates and conducts "Out of Specification Result" Investigations, with the assistance of the Supervisor or designee, as outline in departmental SOPs.
Dispose of biohazard waste according to environmental regulations and company/departmental procedures.
May work with teratogenic, hazardous, carcinogenic, and potent drug materials.
Files and maintains laboratory records following Good Documentation Practices.
May assist in providing guidance/training to new and existing personnel.
Helps maintain and store supplies inventory.
Wash glassware used to perform analysis, if needed.
Performs other miscellaneous duties as required

Requires a Bachelors degree in Microbiology or equivalent. One to two years of previous industrial Microbiology experience is desired, preferably in the Pharmaceutical industry. Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines. Ability to negotiate obstacles during sampling, such as climbing ladders
Individual may be required to sit, stand, walk regularly and occasionally lift 0-40 pounds. Climbing ladders may be required, therefore ability to understand physical hazards and comply with safety precautions are required. Occasional individuals may work with potent and hazardous materials. Must be accessible to manufacturing floor, office staff and to use required laboratory equipment. Specific vision requirements include reading of written documents, biochemical tests and use computer screen frequently.
