Job Title: Collections Representative, Primary




Summary:


The purpose of this position is to reach collections performance goals by interacting with representatives from commercial insurance payers to collect payment on outstanding patient balances; research and resolve problem patient accounts as needed; and request adjustments to patient accounts as needed. Ensuring department goals and objectives are achieved, in alignment with DaVita's Mission and Core Values.




Qualifications:


1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED).


2. Basic MS Word, MS Excel and Electronic Billing System skills required.


3. Must have good organizational skills with attention to detail.


4. Strong communication skills.


5. Must be able to work in a team environment as well as independently.


6. Excellent telephone and customer service skills helpful.


7. Detail oriented with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.


8. Ability to work in a fast paced environment with stressful situations with resourcefulness and initiative; ability to accept training, instruction, and change with a positive attitude is essential; nature of the work demands courtesy, tact, professionalism, confidentiality, interpersonal skill, and maturity.


9. Self-starter, team player, ability to follow detailed instruction, and work with stringent time lines.


10. Performance and behavior reflect the Mission and Core Values of DaVita.


11. Should have good working knowledge of healthcare reimbursement issues, especially as related to commercial payors and the electronic submission of claim.



Essential Job Functions:


1. Initiates collection follow-up of all unpaid claims with the appropriate Payor.


2. Researches and resolves underpayments and denials with appropriate Payor.


3. Appeals claim rejections, short pays, and denials.


4. Responds to insurance correspondence with appropriate actions.


5. Documents collection activity in Billing system and assigns appropriate action/rejections codes.


6. Assists other Reimbursement Operations personnel with questions and problems.


7. Meets established monthly collection and productivity goals.


8. Recognize and resolve payer issues regarding, claim formats, bankruptcy, contract issues.


9. Respond to inquiries from field personnel regarding claims and insurance issues.


10. Work directly with field personnel to resolve insurance issues on behalf of the patient.


11. Submit adjustments, re-bills, corrections etc. to Accounts Receivable Assistances.


12. Applies strategic thinking to improve job functions in individual department and Central Billing Office as a whole.


13. Responds and resolve insurance correspondence with appropriate actions.


14. Some light travel required.


15. Available to work overtime on occasion.


16. Other duties as assigned.
