Florida Highway Patrol/Traffic Management Center Dispatcher

Lake Worth, Florida

 

 

SUMMARY:

This position is a liaison between the Turnpike?s Traffic Management Center ?TMC? and Florida?s Highway Patrol ?FHP?. 

? Responsible for monitoring the Turnpike?s roadways traffic conditions and relaying accurate traffic incident information between the TMC and FHP. 

? Manages traffic incident information in accordance with established TMC and FHP operational response plans, user?s guide, checklists, and standard operating procedures.

? Assist Turnpike Roadway Maintenance Department and FHP to manage emergency and non-emergency traffic incidents.

? Utilize the FHP CAD system to provide information to The Turnpike Enterprise, FHP Staff, governmental agencies and the general public. 

? Coordinate Road Rangers, wreckers and other Turnpike Enterprise responder with the TMC and FHP.

? Assist FHP Duty Officers by inputting caller information, notes and other required information into FHP CAD system.

? Assist FHP Duty Officers by answering *FHP and occasionally 911 telephone lines.

? When necessary, notify rescue responders and/or other agencies to respond to traffic incidents.

? Notifies Advanced Traveler Information System (ATIS) Operator, Network Administrator and/or Maintenance Engineer of equipment or system malfunctions.

 

Required Skills, abilities, and Experience:

? Must be able to work in a team environment.

? Knowledge of major local roads

? Experience in a call center, control center or dispatch center environment, preferred but not required. 

? Ability to obtain and disseminate relevant information from a variety of resources including CCTV, scanners, field personnel, internet, two-way radio and customers.

? Ability to work in a fast-pace, high-energy environment.

? Ability to perform real-time activities, prioritize tasks and complete them within a defined period of time.

? Ability to effectively utilize a two-way radio system.

? Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as rules, operating procedures or other traffic related documents.

? Ability to solve problems and manage situations when potentially only a limited amount (or conflicting) information exists.

? Ability to work flexible schedules.

? Skill in the use of Windows operating system and Microsoft Word and Excel.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Associates (A.A./A.S.) degree preferred; or two to four years-related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required in lieu of degree.
