Procurement Manager

In this position you will manage a staff of 7 buyers, senior buyers, and global commodity managers. You will be responsible for guiding the procurement of commodities and/or services that have financial impact to the company, ensuring the best leverage of company dollars. Implements proactive procurement philosophies (JIT, PAC, Reverse Auctions, E-Commerce), strategies, policies and procedures for successful integration into all business units within AB. Manages Procurement staff to ensure they continually meet or exceed optimum levels of quality, technology, service and cost of supply base. You will measure against department goals and report performance levels monthly through metrics scorecard; and meet cost targets and material availability crucial to the success of the business. Must report to senior management status of projects. Leads teams for special projects, such as product transitions, supplier transfers, e-commerce solutions, audit reviews, etc. Responsible for meeting inventory goals for purchased material quarterly as well as year- end. Implements programs and tracking tools to ensure goals are achieved. Requires strong contract and negotiation skills across cross-functional platforms. Report monthly status on contracts. Coaches direct reports to enable them to present strategies quarterly to senior management. Participates in Global Procurement Council to improve processes, standardize procedures, and identify better business practices on a global basis. Participates in Commodity Management Teams for direct reports. Ensures strategic direction for teams are presented quarterly to senior management. Requires knowledge of cross-functional businesses within Applera and Applera partners. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal crucial. Must be able to work in a fast pace environment without significant direction. Requires flexibility.

This position requires a BA/BS or equivalent experience required. Life Science degree a plus. 8+ years of procurement experience and managing direct reports. Computer skills: SAP (or equivalent ERP system); MS Office.
