Part-time 68 hrs per pay period, day shift 6:30 am-7 pm, various days, 6:30 am-3:30 pm, every other Sa
Description:
SURGICAL/SPECIALTY CLUSTER UNIT SECRETARY provides patient and family focused care as part of the health care team under the supervision of the Leader Manager/Team Leader/Assistant Unit Manager in accordance with SCMC mission, philosophy, policies, and procedures. Functions as a receptionist and is responsible for administrative and clerical records involved with indirect nursing care services.
Maintains an in-depth knowledge of principles, practices, standards and techniques and demonstrates knowledge in accordance with SCMC policies and procedures within pertinent laws and regulations in the following areas:
1. Performs secretarial and receptionist duties as appropriate, including computer data entry/retrieval, including GroupWise, Word, Excel, Cerner, Bed Board, Nurse Call system, and Affinity.
2. Receives and directs communications. Relays messages to team members when appropriate.
3. Appropriately uses available forms of communication.
4. Checks and replenishes appropriate chart forms.
5. Disassembles chart at discharge for return to Medical Records.
6. Assists in coordinating services performed by other hospital personnel; provides patient transportation as appropriate.
7. Assists AUM with appropriate bed assignments, keeping the AUM informed of discharges and available rooms.
8. Initiates maintenance of equipment needed for cluster.
9. Participates with team members in facilitating patient and families learning throughout the hospital experience in preparation for discharge.
10. Demonstrates an awareness of cost containment and economical use of supplies and equipment.
11. Performs other related work as directed by immediate supervisor.
12. Maintains adequate level of forms used on the unit.
13. Assists LM and TL with reports by keeping accurate data as delegated and by producing necessary graphs/charts.
14. Assists the LM, TL, and AUMs in scheduling unit meetings and educational series.
15. Participates in peer evaluations, giving honest feedback with compassion and respect.
Requirements:
Education: High School graduate or GED equivalent required. Must be willing to take additional courses as requested.
Registration: None
Experience: Desirable to have experience in dealing with the public. One year of clerical experience required.
Job Knowledge: Knowledge of medical terminology, typing, and basic computer skills required. Problem-solving skills preferred. Must maintain knowledge of and practice safe body mechanics according to SCMC policies. Excellent communication skills required (both oral and written.)
Computer Literacy: Prefer experience/proficiency in Word and Excel. Ability to learn and apply all skills necessary for organization specific computer programs.
