Part of the Investment Bank Communications & Marketing department, the Americas Business Marketing function is the center of excellence for marketing communications, with both an advisory and a project management role.
It is responsible for advising the client-facing business areas on their marketing communications planning, and managing their advertising, direct marketing and other promotional campaigns, including coordinating and controlling their expenditure on the ad/pr cost line.
The team works closely with other parts of the Communications and Marketing dept, in particular branding, media relations, advertising and events teams to ensure all media channels are utilized for maximum effectiveness. Close collaboration also takes place with other regional business marketing teams and colleagues across UBS Group to ensure consistency of approach and outputs to all global marketing.
Strong operational relationships with colleagues in IB Comms & Marketing functions in the US and overseas, and counterparts in other regions and business groups are key to the role's success, as is effectively winning clients round to a strategic rather than purely tactical focus on business marketing.
This role of Business Marketing Manager reports to the Investment Bank's Head of Business Marketing in the Americas. It has immediate defined responsibilities, ownership of projects and relationships, and offers exposure to all areas and levels of the firm, including business area clients, the IB Management Office, other Comms & Marketing functions, Corp Center and suppliers (both media and creative).
Building effective relationships within the team, within Comms & Marketing, and among clients is critical to the role's success, and will bring the right candidate immediate accountability and visibility.
Key responsibilities:
Client Service:
- Work closely with the Head of US Business Marketing across a wide range of activities promoting UBS Investment Bank in the Americas and in particular the client-facing areas.
- Work with US personnel on developing and executing overall marketing plans which includes research and business planning, development and execution of communications, measurement and analysis, annual budgeting, etc.
- Effectively manage internal and external resources to deliver for internal clients. This will entail working closely with the Branding Services area to insure that strategic, timely, on-budget communications are developed
- Take business clients through a formalized communications planning process - developing and agreeing to annual plans where possible
- Work in conjunction with Brand Advertising, Brand Research, Sponsorship and the external media and creative agencies to deliver effective programs to internal clients. Be knowledgeable in our current strategies in these areas. Have a deep understanding of the creative, media planning/buying, research and sponsorship processes which can be communicated to internal clients.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key senior influencers in all business areas to ensure that business marketing is included in the planning, development and implementation of marketing communications.
- Assume regional business marketing responsibility for internal clients in the US, Latin America and Canada.
- Identify client needs, current perception of UBS services and how UBS can address these needs and perceptions. Propose and execute appropriate consumer insight initiatives.
- Take full briefs on specific projects. Ensure full understanding of brief, deliverables, budgets and timings among all parties, and obtain brief signoffs. Project manage to delivery.
- Develop expertise on all aspects of business marketing through marketing, product and skills training.
- Develop close working relationships with other Comms & Marketing functions including Event Marketing and Internal Communication insuring that a coordinated approach is taken on all projects.
- Act as point person and knowledge base for business marketing-related queries from ex-US clients and partners.
- Point person for insuring that a fully integrated approach is undertaken for all initiatives, considering all appropriate methods (advertising, direct, collateral, on-line, media relations, events, etc.) for delivering an effective communication message.
- Be knowledgeable of the firm's brand and business strategy, to insure maximum effectiveness of all marketing communications activity.
- Identify and implement appropriate means of measuring (a) client satisfaction with the service received from Communications & Marketing and (b) the effect of the activity against goals and benchmarks.
- To fully leverage and communicate existing information, extract relevant data from Brand Equity Monitor and other research to present to internal clients.
- Act as local expert on competitive activity within areas of responsibility. Provide write-ups and analysis as needed. Tap into knowledge and employ help from internal and external resources.
Procedures & Policies:
- Monitor and track ad/corporate pr/sponsorship expenditures on a monthly basis. With business clients and BUC, identify and resolve discrepancies. Maintain follow-up records for OpRisk purposes.
- Maintain knowledge of business area budgets / forecast updates / actual expenditure, assisting in providing summaries at required intervals and identifying issues.
- Delegate, code and approve all project invoices.
- Assist in the management of the ad approval process.
