Communications Manager of Media Affairs

Philip Morris USA Inc., a global leader in the manufacturing and marketing of consumer products made for adults, is currently seeking a Communications Manager of Media Affairs to develop and maintain ongoing relationships with key media contacts and serve as company spokesperson with print and electronic media.

The position is highly visible both internally and externally.


Position Specific Duties

Manage and implement media and public relations strategies and programs to persuasively present PM USA positions, policies, issues and interests to a variety of audiences, consistent with the Company's mission, values and positioning.


Develop proactive communications strategies, crisis preparedness and tactical applications. Manage media outreach, communications plans and crisis work by serving on a cross-functional team by identifying the vehicles and drafting the messages around key legislative/regulatory issues.


Manage communications efforts to key external stakeholders around litigation and keeps abreast of all pending trials and cases. Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of state of the business and leverages this understanding to inform strategies to legislative changes and progress.


Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with key media contacts. Keep Internal Communications group abreast of all pending and breaking news. Manage public relations consultants which assist the communications manager by executing media affairs strategies.

Qualifications
Qualified applicants will possess an undergraduate degree plus a minimum of 10 years experience in media/public relations working for a corporation, public relations firm, non-profit or in government.
Experience/Skills

A Masters degree is desirable. Business travel will be required in this role.

The incumbent will demonstrate knowledge of the operations, structure, reporting requirements and editorial practices of print and broadcast media.

The incumbent will possess excellent oral and written skills, including experience as a spokesperson.

The incumbent will demonstrate experience in directing executive outreach and speaking opportunities.

The incumbent will possess experience in journalism, speech writing, editing, and writing for the news media.

The incumbent will demonstrate knowledge of the key issues and external forces affecting the company including political, legislative, social and business issues.

The incumbent must be experienced in supervision and development of staff members.

The incumbent must be able prioritize and handle a large number of diverse projects and issues simultaneously.

The incumbent will demonstrate ability to deal with important issues that can have a significant impact on the long-term success of the Company.
