Copywriter--Fixed/Indexed Annuities - (RF12710)

Position Summary:
Copywriter for Fixed/Indexed Annuities team that primarily focuses on creating and maintaining material for that team throughout the course of the year. Work with partners to develop creative concepts for material that are both compelling and on strategy. Develop high quality content for a variety of types of collateral across media types within branding standards. Ensure adherence to compliance and regulatory issues. Collaborate with team to ensure quality and timeliness of material. Help direct junior staff and freelancers (sr. staff only).


Major Responsibilities:

1. Write copy for assigned product team that primarily focuses on creating and maintaining material for that team throughout the course of the year. May also participate secondarily on other product teams, cross product teams, or value add/enterprise teams as needed.
2. Work with design partner and creative services management to develop creative concepts for material that are both compelling and on strategy.
3. Present concepts to marketing management and stakeholders and articulate strategic reasoning.
4. Develop high quality content for a variety of types of communications across media types. Work with Editorial Director to ensure material is within budget and in compliance with editorial/branding guidelines.
5. Develop and refine writing skills, research skills, product knowledge, and understanding of financial services industry to elevate work to a higher level. Actively pursue a better understanding of LFD and its distribution model as well as gaining a better understanding of the entire enterprise and the roles and drivers for each LFG business unit
6. Facilitate adherence to regulatory and compliance issues by serving as primary tactical relationship and interface with compliance partners.
7. Collaborate with a team of people, including marketing directors and managers, designers, traffic managers, compliance personnel, stakeholders, etc. to ensure the smooth and timely creation of material. Proactively contribute to the team's efforts by demonstrating leadership when appropriate. Focus on developing creative solutions to the issues and challenges at hand.
8. Adhere to established workflows.
9. For Sr. Copywriters only, responsible for both developing junior staff writers and directing freelancers to ensure quality, strategic relevance, adherence to workflow and branding, and product understanding. Direct content for team or product line.
10. For Sr. Copywriters only, contribute to the improvement of quality of processes, materials, standard of writing, content, and strategic direction. Responsible for helping other team members continually consider the bigger picture throughout the project.
11. Product copywriter is responsible for learning not only their primarily assigned product line and important features but also other product lines eventually to better facilitate their ability to perform cross-product line work


Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

Training/Formal Education/Licenses:
BA/BS in English, communications, or related area, preferred
NASD series 6 required, or obtained within 90 days; other licenses may be encouraged or required later.

Experience:
o Writing experience for Product Copywriter:
o Jr. Copywriter: 1-4
o Copywriter: 3-8
o Sr. Copywriter: 6+
o Financial Services/Financial Products experience for Product Copywriter:
Financial Services experience preferred or minimum service industry and the ability to learn quickly. Having both corporate and agency experience is a plus.
o Jr. Copywriter: 0
o Copywriter: 1-6
o Sr. Copywriter: 4+

Functional
o Ability to write and edit oneself
o Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, Adobe products, etc.
o Experience with or an understanding of Compliance important for copywriters and senior copywriters
o Experience with or understanding of a wholesaler distribution system is a plus
