Credit Scientist

Job Description: JOB PURPOSE: This position supports the Data Based Solutions Department in fulfilling our mission to help Chevy Chase Federal Savings Bank gain a significant and sustainable competitive advantage through the creative application of quantitative analytical techniques to diverse business opportunities.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Apply statistical reasoning and computational tools to determine effectiveness of various campagns, programs and policies, (e.g. marketing campaigns, Deposit Exposure Limit, Criteria Post, Lending Tree filter Optimization, etc.) and Recommend policy changes.
2. Present results of statistical projects to both statistically-oriented and non-statistically-oriented managers throughout the bank.
3. Code and maintain efficient and effective statistical models and segmentation schemes through SAS program code.
4. Design effective statistical models (logistic and linear regression, CHAID, Neural Network, cluster analysis, and other relevant predictive statistical techniques) to score marketing, profitability, risk, or related outcomes. Employ model comparison and selection techniques (e.g., Lift/ROC curves) to identify best models. 1 - 3 Models per Year
5. Design, maintain and advise on data collection and warehousing platforms to support advanced quantitative, qualitative, and data mining analysis.
6. Initiate, develop, foster and enhance relationships with various business lines to investigate opportunities for applying statistical or data mining methods to solve business problems.
7. Provide technical leadership and mentoring other team member
8. Write and maintain SAS program code to generate predictor attributes across account, customer or household levels.
9. Evaluate model population and characteristic stability and troubleshoot and correct discrepancies as necessary.
10. Design and implement statistically valid testing procedures ranging from simple champion-challenger design to 2k factorial designs as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Skills/Abilities:
1. Well organized with excellent written and oral communication skills.
2. Strong SAS programming skills (Base/Stat/Macro), Mainframe JCL, MS Office
3. Experience developing, implementing and managing custom behavioral modeling strategies
4. Creative problem-solver, with solid judgment --who looks beyond the surface, sees the potential relationships between diverse factors to anticipate profitable outcomes
5. Flexibility and adaptable to changing and varying priorities. Must support a minimum of five concurrent projects with conflicting task, schedules and objectives.
6. Strong team player with ability to mentor colleagues on development of statistical project work
7. Must be self-motivated, action-oriented and capable of working both independently and as part of a team

Experience:
1. Minimum 5 years working experience in financial, marketing, and CRM analysis function
Education/Licenses/Certifications:
2. Master of Science in Statistics, Economics, Marketing or a Quantitative field, MBA preferred, or Technical BS with 5 years specifically related experience.

RELATIONSHIPS (external/internal): Weekly contact with multiple internal division managers, occasional contact with external vendors.
