Position Description

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Territory: Global

Overall Mission: American Superconductor (AMSC) is looking for an exceptionally talented senior marketing professional to lead its Corporate Marketing and Communications team, headquartered in Westborough, MA to provide strategic direction for AMSC?s global corporate marketing and communications efforts. The successful candidate will be a key member of AMSC?s executive management team and will develop and deliver measurable and effective integrated marketing programs that create interest, demand and recognition for AMSC while driving revenue and operating margin growth. You will work in collaboration with the heads of individual business units to drive adoption of AMSC?s products in new and existing channels as well as to build business plans and go-to-market programs. This is a high visibility, corporate role with broad responsibility for managing marketing company-wide.

This position is an excellent opportunity for a self-starter with a passion for marketing and a drive to succeed and make a difference. We are looking for a creative, high-energy individual who is extremely proactive with a strong bias for action and a commitment to successfully deliver.

Specific Responsibilities:
? Manage a seven person marketing and communications team of direct and indirect reports in the delivery of integrated marketing communications and sales support programs including lead generation, channel support, event management, collateral development, PR, IR, competitive analysis, industry marketing, interactive marketing and brand management.
? Lead AMSC?s public-facing and internal communication efforts to prospects, analysts, the press, partners, employees and the Board of Directors.
? Establish marketing mix to attain stated business objectives; develop company?s communication, media, go-to-market, branding and interactive strategies.
? Work with key company stakeholders to define, execute and maintain key messages and content of AMSC?s web site and other collateral materials
? Facilitate definition and refinement of AMSC?s products? value propositions.
? Oversee company?s interactive marketing efforts including corporate website and intranet, web seminar programs, html newsletters and email campaigns.
? Lead industry marketing team in identifying addressable markets, establishing effective lead programs, reinforcing corporate strategy and developing a strong visual identity.
? Build and optimize a lead generation system, including prospecting, qualification and measurement, using web analytics and other tools.
? Develop and implement the company?s public relations and marketing communications strategies and programs.
? Define and execute all IR, PR and marketing communications strategies and programs.
? Co-manage the company?s Investor Relations function with CFO.
? Drive conceptualization and execution of all marketing materials, including marketing collateral, direct email campaigns, online and print advertising campaigns, product datasheets and sales tools.
? Manage all marketing communications programs to budget, providing detailed metrics to demonstrate progress toward company objectives.
? Define, develop and execute closed-loop demand generation programs with demonstrable ROI.
? Oversee development and execution of cohesive brand identity program that reinforces corporate strategy and establishes a strong visual identity across the company?s collateral, on-line marketing, web presence, seminars and events.
? Drive the communications strategy and plan for product and corporate branding and messaging and actively participate in successful execution of that plan.
? Conduct and analyze market research and competitive analysis to determine risk and marketability of potential products and product features.

Qualifications:
? Strong leadership skills and solid track record of building, managing, and motivating a team of experienced professionals.
? Excellent team player with collaborative style, but also must be able to identify, prioritize and manage work well independently.
? Experience working closely with people at all corporate levels, including the chief executive and Board of Directors.
? Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a high attention to detail.
? Strong project management, analytical and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to manage and actively contribute to multiple deadline-driven tasks and projects.
? Exceptional ability to work cross-functionally providing direction, motivation, and project management.
? Demonstrated experience developing solid brand identity and marketing collateral.
? Proven track record in defining market opportunities, targeting markets and successfully delivering products to market.
? Strong ability to work under pressure of deadlines; contribute and operate in a fast-paced environment.
? Solid analytical skills and experience in analyzing the effectiveness of marketing programs
? Proven experience running lead generation programs, events and seminars.
? Ability to absorb technical information and communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences.
? Must demonstrate ability to translate highly technical information into communications that are easily understood by a broad range of audiences.
? Demonstrated success marketing in international geographies.

Travel:
? Estimated to be in the 10-15% range.

Education/Experience/Skills
? Bachelor?s degree either in a related field or a technical degree; related Masters Degree or MBA preferred.
? 10 to 15 years of progressively responsible corporate marketing and communications experience; the majority of this experience must be technology-oriented
? Experience at a publicly-traded company required.
