We have an immediate opening in our Fairfax, Virginia headquarters for a talented, Senior Flash Developer / Designer who can provide creative multimedia and technical design solutions for the communication and training needs of our clients. Using your mix of creative skills and project awareness, you can create reusable, repurpose-able applications, work both independently and with a talented e-Learning design team; execute a creative strategy from concept to delivery, and provide leadership in the areas of visual and interactive design for our Human Capital Strategies practice group.

Our current focus is in the area of web development in the areas of e-Learning, e-Performance support tools, and Web portal development. We stress reusability of underlying code and we must hire someone with a coding style that accommodates this need. Self-management and a great attitude is key. You will be in direct contact with clients.

Primary Responsibilities:

Although much of what is described focuses on Flash programming and developing engaging interactive experiences, this position requires excellent graphic design skills and the desire and ability to provide visual leadership for our Human Capital Strategies practice group.

Responsibilities include:Develop the user experience, layout, navigation, and site or application structure for various projects. Meet with project managers and clients to fully understand client needs.Provide input to functional requirements and technical specifications documents in areas of expertise. Read functional and technical specification documents consisting of user requirements, site maps and wire frames, etc., to understand project objectives.Create wire frames for general layout and navigation concepts.Create design solutions (e.g., graphical user interface designs, navigation schemas, etc.) for projects. Work with programmers to develop underlying solution architecture insuring integration and interoperability of code. Document your code and design templates and maintain your code and template library.

 Requirements:

DesignQualified candidates will have very strong skills and efficiency in graphic design, layout, usability, interface and navigation design, especially for e-learning and web application design. (Understanding user interaction design, human factors, and other key design principles are a must and exceptional design skills are critical and will be looked for in a portfolio). Knowledge and understanding of a wide range of 2-D graphic design tools including expert knowledge the Macromedia and Adobe Software Suites (Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks).Experience with 3-D graphics development tools such as Maya, Swift 3D and Poser a plus.

ProgrammingCandidates must have 3-5 years of experience in developing interactivity, navigation, media display, and data connectivity (especially XML and Remoting) in Flash. Experience with Flash streaming audio and video a plus. Demonstrated ability to program complex and dynamic Flash web sites is mandatory. Candidates should be able to provide work samples of Actionscript 2.0 classes and Flash projects. Advanced skills in the Flash authoring tool, including ActionScript 1.0 are required and intermediate ActionScript 2.0 experience is also required. Knowledge of SCORM and Section 508 requirements for Flash are extremely helpful.Experience working with a software development team to integrate Flash with back-end architectures required, particularly knowledge of how to retrieve data and parse XML with Flash. Experience with web technologies such as HTML/XHTML/DHTML/CSS and XML required. Development experience in Cold Fusion, .NET programming, JavaScript, and general database design and connectivity are extremely helpful. Any secondary skills such as advanced XML, video editing, or sound editing experience with applications such as Sound Forge or Audition are a plus.

Project SkillsExcellent user and team focused communication skills. Capacity to work directly with clients (internal and external) to consult, advise, understand and execute project goals and requirements. Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment. Ability to effectively manage time and schedules and consistently meet agreed upon deadlines. Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.Desire and ability to innovate new technical approaches and solutions during periods of down time.Experience juggling multiple projects in a rapid production environment and capable of working in a PC platform. (Macintosh experience may be useful.)

Preferred BackgroundInstructional Technology/Instructional Design, Graphic Art/Design, or Computer Science educational background preferred. Candidates with a Master?s degree preferred but not required.Experience working with government clients a plus.

Additional InformationVery minimal travel may be involved, mostly to local government and private sector clients in the Washington D.C. metro area, or to occasional conferences or training.
