Manager, Brand Communication

 

Taking its name from the African word "jama," meaning to celebrate, Jamba Juice is very much an American entrepreneurial success.  Founded in 1990 as The Juice Club by Kirk Perron, Jamba now operates nearly 600 stores nationwide (combined company-owned and franchised).  Jamba, headquartered in San Francisco, also has partnership agreements with area developers in Hawaii and Texas and operates stores on college campuses and in airport locations across the country.  Our locations are unique and colorful quick serve restaurants with annual volume ranging from $.4m to $1.5m and are often found in freestanding, outdoor malls to accommodate our active customers.

 

Primary Role:

Accountable for protecting and growing the strength of the Jamba brand by acting as lead brand steward: providing tools, training and support that bring the brand to life in every facet of the organization. Responsible for driving brand messaging throughout the organization and integrating key messages into all customer points of contact. Also responsible for providing creative direction, approvals and creative services to all individuals communicating on behalf of the Jamba brand.

 

Essential Functions:

o  Brand Stewardship

  ?  Maintain and update brand standards including brand messaging, look and feel, copy tone and style, logo usage and trademark protection.

  ?  Develop tools and training program to support brand understanding and protection

  ?  Educate appropriate team members about proper brand usage and protection

  ?  Be a brand champion, creating internal and external enthusiasm for the brand

 

o  Drive update and rollout of all long-term brand communication vehicles

  ?  Store environment, all in-store communication (signage, brand messaging, menu board, cups, napkins and other packaging, all collateral, uniforms, Nutritional info, other brand cues, way-finding, etc.)

  ?  Snack and merchandise packaging

  ?  Jambacard  and collateral

  ?  Jamba website

  ?  Business papers and company communication

  ?  Training and Recruiting materials, any other departmental materials

 

Additional Functions:

?  Creative Direction and Management: Provide internal and external resources with creative input and guidance. Source, guide and maintain a pool of creative freelance resources that understand and can execute against the Jamba creative vision.

?  Marketing/Creative Project Management: As needed, creative and marketing communications projects, seasonal campaigns, new product promotions, national events, on-line and off-line direct marketing, promotional events and advertising.

?  Graphic design development and website management: As needed, provide design concepts through final art files for a variety of small design assignments. Manage and maintain www.jambajuice.com, including regular updates and as-needed changes.

?  Print Vendor Management: Key contact for print vendor, ensuring all materials are produced to Jamba standards and that all materials are fulfilled as outlined by Jamba

 Required Skills:

?  Proven success in developing and maintaining effective brand guidelines

?  Hands-on design and concepting experience; experience in giving creative direction/managing the creative process

?  Ability to develop focused, compelling, brand messaging and communication

?  Superb project management skills in a fast paced environment

?  Excellent communication & team-building skills

?  Ability to be part of a project team as well as handle individual projects

?  Ability to work with technical and creative staffs, and to work with cross-functional teams across the organization

?  Detail-oriented

?  Strong verbal & written communication skills

 

Required Experience:

?  5-7 years a retail design environment (agency or client environment ? preferably a combination)

?  Proven experience developing and/or maintaining brand systems and standards

?  Training as a graphic designer and/or Web designer preferred

?  2-3 years experience developing marketing programs and promotions

?  Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and graphic design applications including Illustrator, PhotoShop, InDesign, QuarkXPress, HTML, Flash

?  Adept at working on Macintosh and PC platforms

?  Good understanding of the print production process

?  Working knowledge of web programming

 

NOTE:  In late December 2006, Jamba Juice will be re-locating its headquarters from San Francisco to the East Bay, most likely Emeryville.  The final location has not been finalized as of yet but the lease on our San Francisco Support Center is up at the end of December necessitating a move.
