Manager - Media Relations

Principal Accountabilities:

 

?Manages and implements all aspects of comprehensive media relations plans, including: pitch development; press release or briefing content; spokesperson training, etc.

? Executes press relations plans as developed in conjunction with VP - Communications, National Director ? Media, and Director ? Media. 

? Assists in and supports development of press contacts, story pitches, and editorial content for submission to publications.

? Schedules interviews with appropriate company subject matter experts as necessary.

? Working with directors of media, develops and assists internal and external spokespeople to be used in various testimonial opportunities.

? Assists in planning, recommending, developing, implementing and evaluating a wide range of media projects to support various Institute initiatives.

? Assists with crisis communications issues.

? Develops measurement systems, tracking and coverage assessment

? Proactive and reactive press relations.

? Writing of press releases, message points and related media relations documents.

? Development of media strategies to support AICPA teams and initiatives.

? Promotion of AICPA programs and services.

? PR liaison with Institute?s project teams and volunteer committees (as needed).

? PR contact with state CPA societies.

 

 

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills Required:

 

Minimum seven years? media relations experience in either agency or company setting; excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills; presentation skills; ability to think strategically and creatively; problem-solving skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; ability to grasp and work with technical information; knowledge of issues management and product promotion; basic understanding of marketing.

 

Familiar with wide variety of media techniques, including but not limited to satellite and radio media tours, press releases, video and audio news releases, op-ed pieces, media briefings, and message points.


- Proven experience in successful pitching to print, radio and television outlets.
- Knowledge of public relations principles, practices, and techniques.
- Effective project management skills.
- Ability to balance short and long term priorities.
- Ability to complete projects on time and within budget with minimal supervision.
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Strong presentation skills to communicate and persuade a wide range of audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with print and broadcast media.
- Demonstrated creative ability and analytical skills to identify media contacts.
- Understanding and previous use of a Windows based computer system.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to navigate on the Internet
