MARKETING MANAGER - COMPETITIVE INTELLIGENCE/MARKET RESEARCH
Reuters Enterprise Information, a division of Reuters, provides timely, accurate, machine-readable market data to financial institutions around the world. The content that it sources, checks and distributes powers business processes in the middle, back and front offices of clients on both the buy side and the sell side, in support of activities from research and analysis to trading, risk management and portfolio valuation. Reuters Enterprise Information data spans continents and asset classes. It includes real-time instrument prices, price histories, high-volume tick-by-tick
trading data, evaluated pricing, terms and conditions, corporate actions, analytics and much more.
The role involves daily monitoring and analysis of competitor activity globally through the tracking of key industry websites as well as other public sources across the Enterprise Information business. This competitive intelligence should be disseminated to appropriate stakeholders throughout the business. You will analyse how our products/services/offerings fare in the market versus those of the competition. The role also involves running market research projects for the business from identifying knowledge gaps, conducting research yourself, to working with business managers who define research projects, outsourcing these to the appropriate market research house and driving these, ensuring satisfactory completion. Market research projects can be global or regional in scope.
In addition, you will have regional responsibility for North America, representing the team in this region and having oversight for any marketing activity that occurs in this region (for example, customer events, direct marketing, PR and so on). Solid experience across all marketing functions is therefore required with the successful candidate preferably having a background in general marketing management.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Defines, maintains, and ensures adherence to market research approaches and standards.
- Structures and delivers organized, cohesive and value-added reporting and analysis to the business.
- Provides general research support to Group and Business Division strategy development.
- Commissions market research on behalf of the company to meet division interests.
- Manages external research supplier relationships.
- Conducts bespoke market research on time and within budget.
- Gathers, manages, communicates and leverages division customer/ marketing knowledge and data.
- Aggregates and manages division secondary market analysis.
- Ensures all data is presented and utilised in a way that supports customer segment strategy in making value based decisions. Delivers insightful output to research requirements, including market position report, competitor report, CRM report, brand position report and customer perceptions report, Market Size and Share, Internal Customer Satisfaction, Competitive Analysis, Sales Insights, Marketplace Analysis, Innovation Research, and Customer Requirements.
- Direct/lead efforts to gather, manage, communicate and leverage global and cross-business division customer/market/competitor knowledge.
- Management of key strategic market research and analysis programs, to include:
- Interacts with others to gather and exchange information and deliver project output.
- Track websites such as efinancialnews.com; ignites.com; stpzone; finextra.com; ft.com; breakingviews.com and so on, on a daily basis looking for any market,
industry or competitor news that may impact the EI business and send out notification to the wider team.
- Propose market research in areas where there is a knowledge gap.
- Write brief for market research projects for execution by marketing insights team.
- Track progress and reporting.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWELDGE, AND EXPERIENCE
3+ years experience as a Marketing Manager with specific expertise in competitive intelligence and market research.
Generalist knowledge of marketing practices including direct marketing, PR, advertising, and customer facing events.
In depth knowledge of current market research techniques, leading market research spanning industry, competitor, market and customer needs.
Demonstrated ability to manage external suppliers to deliver complex research on behalf of an organisation.
Previous experience executing research across different markets and cultures preferred.
Exposure to financial services industry preferred; Understanding of how research can benefit Reuters business.
Excellent communication skills: written and oral. Able to present concise data to executive management.
